Our friend RB Mays of West KY Berners has made the following post. Is there anyone on our page that is able/willing to adopt or foster 2 bonded Senior Berners? They come from bloodlines with upwards of 14 years of longevity. PM us if interested and we will get you in touch with RB.
I need some guidance/direction from those who have fostered or brought adult dogs into the mix with your adult Berners. In short, the wonderful widow owner of two 10-year old Berners - brother and sister - passed away suddenly. I have to either bring them into my home or find them a home. I have known them their entire lives, and they are sweet as can be. There will be vet bills with them because the female has lived (with incredible care) with hip dysplasia since before she was 2, so it is a difficult ask for someone to take them in. Their owners were close family friends, so I feel an obligation.
I have 4 adult Berners - 2 male (father/son) and two females. After next week, the only one intact of my 4, and the new two, will be my two year old male. My oldest male is 10 and is actually the litter mate of the new two. My father and son have not always gotten along, and I still have to be cautious not to put them in the wrong situations together.
When you have brought adult dogs together, how have you made it work? Is this even possible? I love the dogs and certainly want to care for them as we all grieve the loss of their dear mother.
Thank you!
