🍂🐾 Cooler Weather Is Here, But Grooming Doesn't Stop! 🐾❄️
As the temperatures start to drop, many pet parents think it's time to let their dog's coat grow out and take a break from grooming. But did you know that maintaining your dog's coat during the cooler and colder months is just as important as during the summer?
Here's why regular grooming matters year-round!
Matting Doesn't Take a Winter Break!
Longer coats can actually become more prone to tangles and matting, especially when dogs wear sweaters, jackets, or harnesses. Matting pulls on the skin, causes discomfort, and can trap moisture against the skin.
A Healthy Coat Provides Better Insulation!
Your dog's coat helps regulate body temperature. A clean, properly maintained coat can do its job much better than one that's dirty, packed with undercoat, or matted. A matted coat doesn't provide the same healthy insulation!
Baths Are Still Important!
Just because your dog isn't spending as much time outside doesn't mean their skin and coat don't need attention. Regular baths help remove dirt, oils, allergens, and loose hair while keeping the skin and coat healthy.
Don't Forget Those Feet!
Wet grass, mud, leaves, and winter debris can get trapped between paw pads. Keeping feet trimmed and nails maintained helps with comfort and traction.
Longer Hair Doesn't Mean Skipping Haircuts!
Want to keep your pup a little fluffier during the colder months? Absolutely! But longer coats require MORE brushing and regular grooming appointments, not fewer. Maintaining that fluffy look takes work both at home and at the groomer's!
Consistency Is Key!
Skipping grooming appointments throughout fall and winter can lead to severe matting, which may result in your dog needing a much shorter haircut than you originally wanted.
