UPDATE #2:

This is Gunner.
He is an 8 year old Basset Hound. He is currently 54 lbs.
Gunner and his companion found themselves homeless recently so they arrived here.

We were told Gunner is fine around most other dogs, has been around older children and has been around cats. He was a house dog so he was also housetrained prior to arrival. ***we have no way of testing with cats here.

Gunner will need entropion surgery at some point. When he arrived his skin was a bit of a mess and we are still trying to get it under control.

We are seeking rescue if one is available to accept him.
HOWEVER we may consider an adopter if they understand that surgery could be necessary sooner than later.

(If you do not live in Morrow County please contact your local shelter or auditor for purchasing info).

Under the Ohio Revised Code it is required (law) to have a dog license for each dog over 12 weeks of age. The tag also helps get your dog back home when they get loose and possibly wander away or get picked up by the dog warden.
**The auditor site has a search option for licenses in the event you may find a dog.

As we head into this season of gratitude, we want to begin by sharing our deep appreciation for the people who show up for the dogs every single day.
Our wonderful Dog Warden, her dedicated staff, and the volunteers at the shelter are the heart of it all. They care for the dogs through the good days and the tough ones—cleaning, comforting, laughing, crying, and doing all the unseen work that truly makes a difference. We are so thankful for everything they do to keep the dogs safe, healthy, and loved.
We’re also incredibly thankful for the supporters of Friends of the Morrow County Dog Shelter. Whether you donate, share our posts, follow along, or spread the word, your support shines a light on the dogs who need it most and strengthens every effort we make.
A special thank-you to the many volunteers who help keep our Friends activities going—from organizing and working at fundraisers, to updating the Adoptables Boards out in the community, to lending a hand whenever and wherever it’s needed. Your time and dedication mean the world.
We are grateful as well for the local businesses who support us throughout the year—those who host Adoptables Boards, donate items, participate in events, and help give our dogs more visibility in the community. Your partnership makes a real difference.
And to everyone who has welcomed a shelter dog into their home: thank you. Offering a dog a fresh start is an incredible gift, and we are grateful for every family who chooses to adopt.
Finally, thank you to every person who believes in this mission. Each of you—at the shelter, in the community, or online—helps brighten the days of the dogs who need us most. We’re grateful for every one of you.

Meet Cosmo the Cosmic Cutie! He’s a sweet, active boy with a gentle soul who is searching for a patient, loving home. Cosmo is shy around new people and needs time and understanding to feel safe, but once he trusts you, he’s full of love and affection.
He walks fairly well on leash but needs training to learn good manners. He’ll need someone ready to patiently teach him the ropes, help him gain confidence, and show him the world can be a safe, happy place, full of love. Cosmo seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, though we don’t know how he is with children or cats.
This boy has so much heart to give—he just needs someone willing to guide him with patience, kindness, and structure. If you’re ready to adopt a shy little star who’s full of love and potential, come meet Cosmo at the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead, OH 419-946-1747. Please help share him so he finds the forever family he deserves. He just needs the right person to help him shine.

Say hello to Dumpling, our gentle senior sweetheart! This lovely girl treasures the quieter moments in life—soft beds, slow strolls, and calm company are her idea of perfection.
Shelter life can feel overwhelming for her, Dumpling hasn’t clicked with most dogs here at the shelter, but the busy, stressful environment can be a lot for her. If you’re interested, we’re more than happy to arrange relaxed meet-and-greets to see if she might feel comfortable with a potential dog buddy. We don’t know how she feels about children and cats, but we do know she’s a smart cookie who already knows some basic commands. She’s strong on leash yet tries her best and just wants to please you.
If you’re looking for a tender, loving soul to share your peaceful moments with, come meet Dumpling at the Morrow County Dog Shelter, Mt. Gilead OH 419-946-1747 —she might just be your perfect match. If she has touched your heart, please share her so she can find the forever family she truly deserves.
