🐾 Sometimes, doing what's right means finding a way, even when you don't have the space.
Recently, two dogs were found in Royal City, WA, by individuals traveling to Pullman. They did the right thing by trying to find a safe place for these dogs, but unfortunately, they struggled to find an agency that could take them in.
That's where Hands 'N Paws came in.
Here's where things get a little complicated.
Every community has its own ordinances and procedures for handling stray animals. Ideally, when a pet goes missing, its owner should know exactly where to look and who to contact.
But when animals are transported outside the area where they were found, reuniting them with their families becomes much more difficult.
Now, these two dogs are being housed in Othello, while their potential owners may still be searching in Royal City. We're relying on social media to help bridge that gap, but we also recognize that not everyone has access to these platforms.
Hands 'N Paws is contracted to serve the City of Othello, and we are not currently an open-intake shelter. Like many rescues, we're working with limited space, resources, and funding.
The truth is, we didn't have room for these two dogs.
But we also couldn't ignore the situation. Their safety, and the safety of the community, mattered. So we found a way to help.
This isn't about placing blame. It's about bringing awareness to a challenge that many communities and animal welfare organizations face.
When resources are limited and responsibilities fall between jurisdictions, it can leave both animals and the people trying to help them in difficult situations.
We believe there's an opportunity for better communication, cooperation, and solutions that support everyone involved.
Because ultimately, we're all working toward the same goal: keeping animals safe and helping lost pets find their way home.💜💚
