The zoo is accredited by ZAA, the Zoological Association of America. This is the OFFICIAL page of the Metro Richmond Zoo. The Zoo opened to the public on April 22, 1995. Over the years, the Metro Richmond Zoo has grown to 150 acres. The Zoo is now home to over 2,000 animals, representing 190 different species from around the world. Look closely at Zoe’s back and you can see the spots where Flynn’s little hands and feet hold on tight. Young orangutans spend much of their early lives clinging to their mothers as they travel.
