🎨🐾 Supporting Our Community, One Brushstroke at a Time! 🐾🎨
Viking Veterinary Hospital was proud to have Cadence with Yang Wren Art + Design do a special window-painting project at Terracotta in Pullman, Washington! ❤️
Cadence has also brought her creativity to our own clinic windows, and we love seeing her talent brighten our community in more locations!
We’re proud to be able to support local artists, businesses, and community events that make our area such a wonderful place to live and work.
Thank you to Cadence and Yang Wren Art + Design for sharing your creativity with us and our community!
Be sure to stop by Terracotta in Pullman to check out the beautiful artwork!

Today, tomorrow, and every ordinary day in between. 🐾

Our technicians show up for every patient with the same patience, whether it is a nervous cat, a wiggly puppy, or a senior dog who needs a little extra time. We are so grateful for them this National Veterinary Technician Week and always. 💙

Has one of our techs made a difference for your pet? Let us know!

🔎 WHAT’S THAT WEDNESDAY? 🩻 | PART 2: THE REVEAL!
Did you guess correctly? 👀🐾

Our patient had swallowed a squeaker from a dog toy, resulting in a pyloric outflow obstruction that prevented normal stomach emptying.

Our team was able to quickly identify the obstruction and provide the appropriate treatment and this playful pet has made a full recovery!

🚨 A reminder for pet owners: Swallowed toy pieces and other foreign objects can cause serious, potentially life-threatening blockages. If you suspect your pet has swallowed something they shouldn’t, contact your veterinarian promptly.

🐶 Keep those toys fun and safe, and always supervise your pets during play!

Cats are naturally designed to drink less water than many other animals, thanks to their desert-dwelling ancestors. 🐱 That low thirst drive can make staying hydrated a challenge, increasing the risk of urinary and kidney problems over time. Encourage healthy hydration by providing fresh water daily, offering moisture-rich wet food, or trying a pet water fountain.

Bloat, or gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), is a life-threatening emergency that can progress rapidly. Knowing the signs could help you recognize an emergency when every minute matters.
🐾 Watch for:
• A swollen, tight, or painful abdomen
• Repeated retching or attempts to vomit with little or nothing coming up
• Excessive drooling
• Restlessness, pacing, or inability to get comfortable
• Panting or rapid breathing
• Weakness or sudden collapse
• Pale or abnormal-looking gums
• Signs of abdominal pain or distress
⚠️ GDV can become fatal without immediate treatment. If you suspect your dog may be experiencing bloat, do not wait to see if the symptoms improve. Seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

💙 Ask any of our veterinarians, and you will hear the same thing. The care a patient receives depends just as much on the technician standing beside them.

Help us celebrate the people who make quality veterinary care possible this week. 🎉 🐾

🐾 MEET THE TEAM🐾
Meet Alyssa, our Client Service Representative (CSR) Lead!💙
Born in Alaska and an Idaho resident for over 20 years, Alyssa is a proud mom to two “feral” boys who keep life exciting! When she’s not at the hospital or spending time with her kids, you can usually find her off on an adventure with friends or her dog.
Alyssa loves exploring old creepy places, getting lost in a good book, spending time with animals, listening to music, and tackling one of her many creative hobbies. Whether it’s a planned outing or a spontaneous adventure, she’s all about making the most of life! 🐾📚🎶
We’re so happy to have Alyssa as part of our Viking Veterinary Hospitals family! Help us show her some love in the comments!

🐾 STAFF PET OF THE MONTH! 🐾
Meet Blackjack, our October Staff Pet of the Month!
This adorable member of the Viking Veterinary Hospital family belongs to Dr. Brooke Bennett, Blackjack is known for being a food goblin and she will do anything for a snack! (Photo evidence attached)
Blackjack is one of our resident black cats. However she has her own scary backstory. Blackjack was attacked by an owl and had severe wounds to her back and abdomen. She is now on the road to recovery under the best possible care with Dr. Bennett. Our Viking Team would like to give a shout out to WSU’s Dr. Bunch and her Integrative Medicine Team for helping to continue Blackjack’s recovery.
Blackjack loves to cuddle up in her owner's laps and soak up all the love and attention.
Help us celebrate this month’s furry friend!
