⁉️ I turned off commenting because, obviously, trolls are awful—and I’m really not in the mood to hear it. I get it: I’m an ignorant, irresponsible pet owner. Thank you for your completely unnecessary opinion.
But if sharing our story helps even three people remember to give their dogs monthly heartworm prevention, then it did its job. My “ignorant self” may have helped protect a few other dogs—so trolls, please go troll somewhere else.
And if you’re going to tell me to spray my yard, I’m happy to hear your HOA handles that for you. I happen to live on over an acre, between cow fields and a river—so grab your sprayer and come do it for me.

The last two days have been a complete fu***ng whirlwind. We’ve always been pretty transparent and open with everyone, but I needed a minute to process everything, gather the facts and wrap my head around what comes next. I think I’m finally ready to share.
On September 1, we loaded up Maggie Momma and all nine babies for their vet appointments. The puppies needed their checkups and vaccinations before heading to their forever homes, and Maggie was due for her annual exam and a few updates.
We decided to run a heartworm test on Maggie—something we honestly don’t normally do—and she came back positive.
To say we were blindsided would be an understatement. When we first got the news, I was terrified for our other dogs and all of the puppies. Thankfully, heartworms are not passed directly from dog to dog or through nursing. Our vet confirmed there is absolutely no concern for the puppies.
Dogs get heartworms from being bitten by a GODDAMN MOSQUITO.
A fu***ng mosquito.
After talking with the vet, asking a million questions and doing some frantic research of my own, we learned that Maggie’s treatment will take about six months. She is only five, and thankfully her additional testing came back good, so the vet believes we should be able to successfully treat her.
But the treatment itself is intense. The biggest concern is keeping her calm, protecting her body through the process and making sure the worms don’t cause further damage as they die off.
Right now, our entire focus is getting Maggie through treatment safely and keeping our sweet Momma healthy.
I’ll share some videos and helpful links because, if sharing this saves even one dog and family from going through it, it’s worth it.
Long story short: PUT YOUR DOGS ON MONTHLY HEARTWORM PREVENTION. Seriously. Fu***ng do it.
I promise you, this is not worth the risk, the fear, the treatment or the thousands of dollars it can cost.
We love our Maggie Momma more than anything, and we’re going to do everything possible to get her through this. ❤️🐾
