It’s been awhile since I did an update, Heiway, Larrikin and I have been busy with training events, work, searches, etc.

In May was Larrikins last search and he made the decision easy for me to allow him early retirement. At 6 1/2 years he will hopefully have another decade of couch potato’ing and just having fun at home.

In August, Heiway and I successfully recertified in human remains detection via NSDA with their Land HRD test. We also had our first operational find in the field a week later.

Currently, I have no breeding plans. I’m expecting a heat any day but I’m also expecting a busy fall and winter. If circumstances change and everything fell into place then great we might try in early spring 2027 but I’m also trying to enjoy my dog, she is showing experience beyond expectations for her age and I wanna live that up a bit.

Been a while since my last update so I wanted to share some pictures of the kools from search team training yesterday. Heiway working human remains and Larrikin finding his people. I lost my phone subjecting for another dog, so Lair also got to put his article search skills to the test.

I love how these two have developed such a bond over the past year. The fact that she lets go of the toy is huge for her. Heiway can totally over power him and keep it if she wanted.

We joined Mason Dixon Search Dogs in Maryland for their regular team training yesterday; we worked a suspended hide over a rainwater pond and a scatterfield scenario. Both were difficult exercises, but we got some cool scent pictures. Heiway did some intense sniffs on the water surface, so cool to watch.
