🐾 Breed Spotlight: Cane Corso

A little history: The Cane Corso is an ancient Italian Mastiff descended from Roman war dogs. For centuries they worked as farm guards, property protectors, and big-game hunters in Italy. The breed nearly went extinct in the 20th century but was revived through careful breeding efforts.

Size + appearance:
• Large to extra-large, powerfully built
• Short coat in black, gray, fawn, or brindle — sometimes with a black mask
• Naturally imposing with a commanding, alert expression

Temperament:
Loyal and deeply devoted to family, with a natural protective instinct. Well-bred, properly socialized Corsos are stable, confident, and affectionate with their people.

Behavior + training notes:
• Training is not optional — it's essential for safety with a dog this powerful
• Requires a confident, consistent owner who sets clear and fair boundaries
• Early and ongoing socialization is critical
• High intelligence means they need mental engagement; boredom leads to problems

🐾 Breed Spotlight: Bernese Mountain Dog

A little history: The Bernese Mountain Dog hails from the Bern region of Switzerland, where they worked as farm dogs — pulling carts, driving cattle, and watching over the homestead. Their calm, steady nature made them trusted partners on working farms for centuries.

Size + appearance:
• Large to very large, sturdy and well-muscled
• Gorgeous tri-color coat: black, white, and rust
• Slow to mature — often puppy-brained until 2-3 years old

Temperament:
Typically gentle, calm, and deeply affectionate with family. Berners are sensitive dogs that read the room well and form strong bonds with their people.

Behavior + training notes:
• Can be stubborn without early, consistent training
• Sensitive to harsh corrections — positive reinforcement goes a long way
• Need moderate daily exercise (not high-octane, but not couch dogs either)

• Short black, red, blue, or fawn coat with rust markings
• Naturally elegant posture and athletic movement

Temperament:
Typically loyal, intelligent, and deeply bonded to family. Well-bred, well-socialized Dobermans are affectionate and sensitive — not the aggressive caricature often portrayed.

• High energy and highly intelligent — need both physical and mental exercise daily
• Strong prey drive; early socialization with other animals and people is essential
