We’re thrilled to introduce our newest associate veterinarian here at Morgan Hill Animal Hospital. A recent veterinary graduate, Dr. Dhaliwal specializes in small animal medicine and is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care. He’s focused on both preventive healthcare and progressive treatment methods to ensure every patient receives the most comprehensive, up-to-date care possible. With his warm personality and genuine love for animals, we know he’ll be a wonderful addition to our team.

Notice to Pet Owners: This message is based on information we have received from USDA-APHIS. Please do not feed your loved pet raw(unpasteurized) milk or other raw foods . Highly pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1) OR Bird Flu virus have been found in over 500 dairies in California with high virus load in raw milk. Virus have been detected in many carnivores including domestic cats after consuming dead bird or contaminated milk. Virus can be present in any raw food as per USDA. This virus causes fatal neurological disease( seizures, sudden ataxia, blindness). A cat had died in LA County after contaminated raw milk consumption. I any pet exhibits such symptoms after exposure to raw milk or raw food possible dead bird , consult your veterinarian. Influenza A virus testing may be available through veterinary laboratories. We also recommend pet parents Pet parent to protect themselves by wearing face masks, goggles and gloves to handle such sick pet from possible avian influenza. CDC can be contacted for more information. Pursue influenza A testing through your usual commercial veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Flu A testing may also be available through some public health laboratories; contact your local public health department regarding any pets who become ill following consumption of raw milk. Review CDC guidelines for safe practices while handling cats possibly infected with H5N1, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 respirator, goggles or face shield, gloves, and gowns. Heat Stroke Alert for our pet owner clients: Weather has become real hot. Heat strokes in dogs are already happening. Any pet can develop heat stroke, however some dog breeds at higher risk are bull dogs, pugs and dogs having any breathing problem. Always keep water available for your pets during outdoor activities. Never leave a pet in the car with closed windows. Good idea to keep AC on in your car if pet is in car during hot weather. Normal temperature of healthy dog is no more then 102.5 deg . It can occasionally go to 103 deg F, if pet is stressed or nervous. Extended exposure of pets to hot weather especially during exercise , hiking or if pet is left in the vehicle while you are running errands in shopping malls/ grossary stores can lead to pet’s elevated body temperature over 103deg( Hyperthermia). Temperature of over 105 deg F lead to Heat Stroke. It is not uncommon for dog’s temperature to reach 107 deg F, leading symptoms of heat stroke such as to tachy gums, lethargy, heavy breathing/panting . In such circumstances, move the pet to shade, offer cold drinking water, take re**al temperature. Wrapping wet towel around the pet and pouring water on the pet can help reduce temperature to below 105 deg F. If pet is starting to be lethargic and laying down, take the pet to Vet Office or nearest ER. Pets not treated in timely manner can develop life threatening conditions from heat stroke called DIC, meanig blood clots in blood vessels necessitating hospitalization, blood transfusion and lot more. Water can be life saving. Veterinarians are always there to save lives. Hope this article is helpful to every pet owner. Jaspal Harika, DVM

Good News for our clients. We are now open on Saturdays specifically to treat sick pets and daytime emergencies of our patients .All saturday appointments are drop off exams. When you drop off a pet, your pet is in good hands. After exam is completed, our staff member will call you with care plan and pickup time.
