I often hear, “why do you do free boarding for all your offspring.”

Along the 25-mile-long barrier island, volunteers have recorded 102 nests. Local turtle patrols — volunteer groups that monitor, protect and assist hatchlings — in Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Fort Macon State Park and Pine Knoll Shores reported record or near-record numbers in their areas.
