Everyone come join us this Saturday at Carteret Humane Society from 11-3 to meet your new furry friend! Each pet adopted opens a space for another in our community that is in need! We will be on site to answer questions, provide exams to the adopted animals, and support the great team at the shelter!

Carteret Humane Society says its shelter is full and will host Operation Clear the Shelter on Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Newport. Adoption fees will be $25, and the event will include kids' face painting, Kona Ice, and free vet exams for adopted pets.

Help us find someone who may be a good fit for these to long term residents! They both would require a committed environment focused on training and anxiety management. Reach out to Carteret County Humane Society if you are interested!

🌡️ HEAT ADVISORY TODAY 🌡️

With today’s heat index expected to reach 109°F, conditions can become dangerous for our pets in just a matter of minutes.

🐾 Keep your pets safe by following these tips:
💧 Make sure fresh, cool water is always available.
🏡 Keep pets indoors as much as possible during the hottest part of the day (10 AM–6 PM).
🚶 Walk dogs early in the morning or after the sun goes down.
🐾 Test the pavement with the back of your hand for 7 seconds—if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws.
🚗 Never leave a pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a vehicle can become life-threatening very quickly.
😎 Provide plenty of shade and good ventilation if your pet must be outside.

⚠️ Know the signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Bright red or pale gums
• Weakness or collapse
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Confusion or stumbling

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke:
❄️ Move them to a cool area immediately.
💦 Wet them with cool (not ice-cold) water, especially on the belly, feet, and armpits.
📞 Contact your veterinarian or the nearest emergency veterinary hospital right away.

Your pets depend on you to help them stay safe during extreme temperatures. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and give your furry family members a little extra TLC today! ❤️🐶🐱
