This weekend we are celebrating Grandparents Day at the Zoo! Come visit us to make memories together 👴🏽👵🏽

Take a leisurely walk through the zoo, spend time with your favorite animals, and enjoy a fun game of Zoo Bingo along the way!

Once you’ve completed your Bingo card, bring it back to the Member Table to receive a $10 coupon toward a new membership or membership renewal!

Zoo members can bring their grandkids and enjoy early entry starting at 10:15 AM before regular zoo hours.

Beaker is part of the Battles of the Hornbills 2026 and we would love your support in helping him win!

Battle of the Hornbills 2026 is a fundraising campaign to support African hornbill conservation researchers. All funds raised will go directly to the AZA African Hornbill SAFE program and will support a critical initiative: sending African hornbill researchers to the International Hornbill Conference taking place February 2027 in Goa, India.

This special day also serves as a memorial to Jackie, the beloved bald eagle from Big Bear whose story inspired millions of people to connect with wildlife and conservation. ❤️🦅

In honor of Jackie and all of California’s amazing wildlife, we’re celebrating the California native animals that call the Teaching Zoo home!

At the Teaching Zoo, we make sure our animals have opportunities for enrichment every day! 🐾

Kylo explored a frozen block filled with treats , Felix searched for his diet inside a hanging tire swing , and Happy interacted with a rat secured to a line in his pool! 🦨🦝🐊

Each enrichment activity offers different opportunities for animals to explore, problem-solve, and engage with their environment. 🧩

From tiny squirrel monkeys to larger primates, each species has unique behaviors, adaptations, and an important role in its ecosystem. 🌎

Many primate species face threats like habitat loss and the illegal wildlife trade. Protecting forests, supporting conservation efforts, and making responsible choices can help protect primates and their habitats for generations to come!🦍🦧

Nothing beats a little sun!

Tilly, our Eastern box turtle, enjoyed some time soaking up the sun in our outdoor sunning enclosure, located right across from Tortoise Trail! Each day, one of our terrestrial reptiles gets the opportunity to spend time outside, enjoying natural sunlight and a change of scenery.

Today was Tilly’s turn to soak up some rays! ☀️🐢

Ring-tailed lemurs: masters of the iconic striped tail and soaking in the sun!☀️

Ring-tailed lemurs are found in Madagascar and are the most terrestrial species of lemurs. Lemurs rely heavily on olfactory communication which is why they have scent glands on the insides of their wrists and the upper part of their chests. In order to scent mark, they rub their scent glands on objects and even waft their tails upwards to assert dominance in the wild. This unique way of communicating helps them navigate their world and maintain social structures!🐵🫂
