Moorpark, Ca. We had a great weekend hosting Michael McManus of Ready Sit Go at Bonn Fyre Farm in Moorpark, Ca. We worked on Pooling and Residual Odor in the morning workshop and Mastering Multiple Hides in the afternoon. It was nice to see so many people get to work with Michael, and to hear his ideas on these topics. We'll be having fun practicing some of the searches that Michael set up.

We are looking forward to December, when we will be hosting both Natalie and Michael for a three day weekend. Details will be sent to people on our email list. You can add your name to the list using the link on our website.

Camarillo Ca. At our Saturday afternoon scent work class we had sixteen dogs and their handlers working on two different searches. Each search was designed to address two very different problems. One search worked on odor hidden in the small cracks of concrete walkways of the search area and the other search worked on swirling odor of inside corners. All of our students were very happy working their dogs on these sometimes complex concepts. Email us about upcoming classes and workshops.

Bon Fire Farms, Moorpark CA. Saturday afternoon, everyone had a fantastic time working with their dogs for a class in AKC buried odor scent work. We had twenty dogs and their handlers run two separate searches, both with six dirt and six water to simulate an AKC excellent level buried element search. We had a great Saturday late afternoon class in Camarillo Ca yesterday. We ran fourteen dogs of different breeds from basenji to borzoi through three different searches.

This Saturday we had our novice class at Bonn Fyre Farm in Moorpark, and our Advanced class had a field trip to an open air style medical building that by late afternoon was deserted. The Advanced class has dogs working at levels ranging from Advanced through Detective.

This week's class was divided into dogs working at Advanced and Excellent levels and dogs working at Master and Detective levels. We had fun taking advantage of many of the areas of this building, where we were able to set up searches varying in size and difficulty so that dogs had ample opportunity to work at this great location.

Super congratulations to Emily and Luna! Not only did she pass her NW2 this past weekend, but they received prounounced in 4/5 searches, (an extra commendation given when a judge feels that a team has worked well in a particular search) they placed 2nd in two elements and were High in Trial!!!

We want to congratulate our students on their amazing results at the Ventura Dog Fancier Association scent work trial at Bonn Fyre Farm in Moorpark Ca this past weekend. Our students had an overall "q" rate of 87%. Two of our students earned High in Trial Combined (for two different trials) and one of our students earned a High in Trial. There were many completed titles, with one student earning their Master level HD (Handler Discrimination) title, and many are moving up to the next level. Almost all of our students were "in the ribbons". Ventura Dog Fancier Association held two separate trials on both Saturday and Sunday, and we all appreciated being able to have enough trials tin one weekend to complete a SWN (Novice) title of a SWA (Advanced title in ONE weekend. Everyone enjoyed the great location, the relaxed atmosphere, and two fun days with our dogs! We are looking forward to their next trial at Bonn Fyre Farm November 8th and 9th. This past Saturday, we held our second in a two-part workshop for the upcoming AKC Novice scent work trials. This workshop focused on Buried and Exterior searches; the prevoius workshop focused on Container and Interior searches. Both workshops ran fantastically smoothly. Attendees said they learned a lot, they saw where they have holes in their training and now know what to work on, but most importantly, they had fun with their dogs. In the upcoming classes, we will focus on areas that we found needed more work so our students feel prepared and confident to enter AKC scent work trials.

This Saturday was our first AKC novice level trial prep workshop, at Bonn Fyre Farm in Moorpark, and focused on containers and interiors. Many of our students are planning to enter their first scent work trials soon, and we saw that many of them were unsure of what to expect from the trial, and unsure if they and their dogs were ready. We want them to feel ready, to know that they are ready, and know what to expect about how the trials are actually run when they show up for their first competitions in the AKC scent work trials that will be held in the next several months.

In the workshop, we covered various methods and ideas for handling different types of searches and environments. Teams were able to practice what had been discussed, and get feedback on their runs; and then participated in a trial like run through of the container and interior elements that were covered.

Our hope is that people were able to see areas in their training that need to be focused on, and where there are holes in their training, so that these issues can be worked on prior to entering trials.

Our next workshop, also at Bonn Fyre Farm, will be on Saturday August 16th and will focus on exterior and buried searches. Workshops are limited to 16 working spot, and here are still a few working spots are available; auditing is unlimited. Contact us for more information on this or upcoming scent work classes and workshops.

Our plan in the future is to do more workshops, to repeat the novice level and to move on and do workshops for higher level classes.
