Update on Shelby Mustang (aka T**i), the cat that was hit by a car in south moorhead around 1 AM Sunday morning.
Shelby is stable, doing well after surgery, and eating. She is currently being cared for in one of our medical fosters. She is very scared but she is safe and loved.
Shelby’s real name is T**i. We know this because her owner was located yesterday through people sharing our posts. The owner was devestated to find out she had been hit by a car and was in tears when I spoke with her on the phone. The family had been looking for her since she slipped out the deck door on Saturday night. Being born outside and only living indoors for a couple of months, I guess she has still got her door dodger skills intact.
The owners have a senior cat with cancer and also just recently treated their male cat for a urinary blockage which left them with a large vet bill they are currently paying off with Care Credit. All they wanted was for T**i to get the care she needed and since they couldn’t afford to take on another bill, they surrendered her over to Cats Cradle. It was a selfless act of love to surrender her not knowing if they would ever see her again.
Backstory;
This family rescued T**i and her sister just a short 2 months ago from living under a trailer. They were born outside and were feral when they took them in. Sadly, T**i’s sister has been wandering around the house crying and looking out the window for her sister since she disappeared Saturday night. She needs her sister back and the family loves her. Thanks to those generous people who donated for her care we are happy to report that we WILL be able to reunite them as soon as T**i is healed up enough to get spayed, tested, microchipped, dewormed and vaccinated.
I would like to thank everyone involved in helping this cat get the care she needed. Thank you to Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center for reaching out to us on behalf of this precious girl. Thank you to everyone who donated to pay her bill which is allowing this reunion to become a reality, and thank you to everyone who shared our post to help identify the owners who were deeply missing their shy girl.
This case highlights the dangers for cats being outside. While this family did not intentionally let her out, many others people DO allow their cats to roam. Cars are not the only danger for these cats, we also have coyotes, foxes and large birds who prey on small animals. Please remind your neighbors to keep their cats indoors at all times to keep them safe.
