🚨 I made a mistake. 🚨

The kids and I went to Rural King (which I had never even heard of before moving here). We stumbled across a whole container full of turkey poults.

“That would be fun,” …..I thought.

So I went home, discussed it with Tom, and he agreed. The kids got HELLA excited about getting turkeys. We headed back to Rural King…

……and they were completely sold out. 🫠

“No idea when we’ll get more.”

Called TSC. Same story.

Mother trucker!!!!!!!

Cue the disappointed kid tears and repeated questions of, “But when ARE we getting our turkeys?!?!?!”

If we were back in Iredell or Rowan County, this wouldn’t be a problem because there seem to be turkeys everyyywhere. 🧐But here near Rocky Mount? I’m striking out.

So, Mooresville Meadows family, I need your help! Does anyone know someone near Rocky Mount, NC, who has turkey poults available? Heritage breeds would be amazing, but at this point, my sanity and eardrums are open to suggestions. 😂

Please drop your recommendations below, tag your turkey people, or share this post. Help me avoid having to explain to my children for the 87th time why we still don’t have turkeys. 🦃😭

Who’s got the turkey hookup?!!!👇🏻

Guys, this new property has been such an incredible blessing for our family, the kids, and all of the animals…..❤️

I’m not quiteeeee ready to come back to social media full time yet, but I did want to pop in with a quick need. Our gerbil cage has finally given up on us, and honestly, she was due for an upgrade anyway. I’ll be in Mooresville today through Friday if anyone has a gerbil cage they’d be willing to donate…..

We could also use rabbit food, hay, and treats. We’ll be rescuing another domestic baby bunny while we’re in town, and we’re already starting to run low on supplies. As always, dry cat food is a huge help too. We’re also taking in another Bengal cat while we’re in Mooresville 😅🤪

Once life slows down a little and we get settled, I can’t wait to show you all this place. It is everything we hoped it would be and more. It has been so much better for ALL of us 🥹🙏

Leo is absolutely living his best life here. He covered 3.5 miles in a single day exploring, and the neighborhood absolutely lovessss him. Thank you to Mrs. Gaylene Bevis for our Tractive Cat Minis!!! We were lucky enough to move in beside two major animal lovers on both sides, and it’s been such a breath of fresh air seeing how welcomed and loved our animals are here.

Thank you all for continuing to support Mooresville Meadows through every season of life. We are excited for what’s ahead!!!🐹🐰🐇🐅🐈🐈‍⬛🐩🐕‍🦺🐶🦴

My count may be a little off, but on Tuesday we’re moving with: two Great Pyrenees (aka small polar bears), two small dogs, three elderly cats, two young cats, one younger Bengal cat, a reptile, a gerbil, an angora silk rabbit, and two kids. We come back the next day for everyone else being boarded 😅

All packed into one 3.5 hour drive.

Pray for us. Pray for the vehicles. Pray for my sanity. And most importantly, pray nobody decides to p**p, scream, throw up, escape, or fight halfway down the interstate 🤪

Shout out to Sons + Sunlight Photography for this adorable candid of me and my m**h lab soul dog (not a joke) 🤪

🐾 KITTEN SEASON IS HERE — AND WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🐾

In less than ONE month, Iredell County Animal Services already has 56 kittens in foster care — and more are arriving every day. 💔🐱

We are always looking for compassionate fosters willing to open their homes to kittens of all ages, from tiny bottle babies needing around‑the‑clock care, to older kittens growing until they reach 2 lbs and are ready to return for surgery and adoption.

The best part? We provide ALL supplies needed for fostering — food, formula, bottles, medical care, and more. Our fosters simply provide a safe home, love, patience, and socialization to help these kittens thrive. ❤️

Fostering truly saves lives and gives vulnerable kittens a chance they may not otherwise have.

Interested in becoming a foster? Please don't comment here or message us about your interest, fill out an application here:

Please share to help us find more amazing fosters this busy kitten season! 🐾

Unpopular opinion:

Animal shelters and rescues are drowning because too many people wait until the absolute last second to care about the consequences of owning a pet.

“Please help. My landlord said we’ll be evicted tomorrow if you don’t take my cat.”

In the kindest way possible… you knew pets weren’t allowed when you brought that cat home. That wasn’t a surprise sprung on you overnight. And now suddenly it’s an “emergency” for everyone else to solve.

Maybe stop focusing so hard on how this affects YOU for five minutes and think about the cat. The cat that now has to lose its home, routine, family, and security because humans made impulsive choices.

Rescues are full. Shelters are full. Foster homes are full. We hear versions of this story constantly and most of the time, it was preventable. I kid you not, this feels like the gajillionth text this week to my PERSONAL CELL with identical scripts.

An emergency on your part does not magically create space, funding, fosters, vet care, or kennels on ours.

We are not saying this to be cruel. We are saying it because people need to start understanding that adopting an animal is a longgggggg term responsibility, not a temporary emotional decision.

Meadow Grazers…. After a lot of thought, we’ve decided to relocate out of Mooresville. this wasnt easy at all. Tom was born and raised here. I was raised in Charlotte but have been here over a decade. our kids were born here. my soul dog is buried here. this town gave us so much… friendships, support, people who showed up for the animals when it mattered most.

But rescue in the city is just different. there are a lot of layers, a lot of red tape, and it can be really hard to navigate when all you want to do is help. Sometimes it feels like the system ISNT built for the animals first, and that takes a toll. There are more eyes, more opinions, more rules… and not all of it actually helps the animals the way people think it does.

And I’ll be honest… it was hard being known as the “kitten lady” of 28115. We met some amazing people who valued what we did and supported us, and I will always be thankful for that. but there were also plenty of times we were called out to take in feral litters and not given a dime, and it wasnt because people couldnt help… they just didnt. The lack of support from the people who have the means and take advantage of your kindness weighs hard.

At the same time, my parents are aging and I need to be closer to them. For me. For the kids. for our souls.

Our family knows our heart and we know the sacrifices we’ve made for these animals. We are sooo thankful for the people here who believed in us and stood beside us. We hope you’ll continue to support us during this transition.

We plan to narrow in on our niche. I’d love to take on a project parrot or horse. I feel like I’ve done my part in the kitten world… not closing that door completely but it was a heavy weight to carry for so long.

With that being said, for everyone asking, we will be moving to Red Oak.

This orange brother and sister duo is still available for adoption. They are used to kids, other cats, big dogs, small dogs, indoor, outdoor, they aren’t murderous, they are wonderful kittens about 7 months old. Spayed/Neutered, vaccinated and UTD on shots. If you have read this far, I will rehome this pair for FREE to the right family. This deal will require an in home meeting prior to adoption. They aren’t going to just anyone. I’ve invested almost a year of my time into them and I will keep tabs on them.

Over the past few days, many news outlets, animal shelters, and rescue organizations have shared reminders about extreme temperatures and the importance of protecting animals during these conditions. Unfortunately, those messages are often met with pushback; comments about “cold-hardy breeds,” “working dogs,” or assurances that certain animals are “fine outside.”

Here’s an important reminder:
Most people have never worked in animal welfare or humane services. They haven’t treated hypothermia. They haven’t seen frostbite damage ears, tails, paws, or skin. They haven’t responded to calls where animals are frozen to the ground, suffering in silence, or already beyond help.

Yes, some breeds and species are more cold-tolerant than others. But cold-tolerant does not mean immune.
• Age matters.
• Health matters.
• Wind, moisture, and exposure time matter.
• Access to proper shelter, bedding, and food matters.

Frostbite and hypothermia do not discriminate by breed name. Even animals adapted for colder climates can and do suffer when conditions become extreme.

So when you see these posts, please understand who they are meant for. They are not attacks. They are not assumptions. They are shared by people on the front lines; those treating these injuries, responding to these calls, and seeing the worst outcomes firsthand.

If the message doesn’t apply to you and your animals are truly safe, warm, and protected, that’s a good thing.

But please allow space for these reminders to exist, because for some animals, they truly can be lifesaving.
