Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern for and asked about Moss. I am pleased to say has has started steroid treatment and seems to be feeling much more like himself. For the last month, we have been battling an unknown neurological problem with Moss. His body was under attack on all sides: seizures, absent reflexes, partial blindness, facial paralysis, brittle and broken nails, lethargy, confusion, compulsive movements, loss of ability to swallow, inability to control his bladder, and just a generally very sick and sad looking dog. I have pursued quite literally thousands upon thousands of dollars in diagnostics for him, and it seems we have finally landed on trialing treatment for meningioencephalitis - which requires long term and possibly permanent steroid usage. If you know me at all you know my deep hatred of prednisone, especially in young dogs, and I am just devastated (at the same time as being absolutely thrilled that it seems to have made him feel so much better!). So the update overall is positive - moss seems to be on the road to recovery! Thank you all for your concern for Moss.
ā€¼ļøIn the intermediary time while moss is on a treatment plan that has the potential to temporarily impair his immune system, it is very possible his body’s ability to defend itself from infection will be low to none. So unfortunately he will not be coming to class or really leaving the house much in the foreseeable future. āš ļøPlease exercise caution bringing your dogs to class, please let me know if you have a sick dog, keep them home, and I will arrange to make up any sessions you miss!

Muzzles are a neutral tool that everyone should have in their toolbox! Some of you all know I’ve been working through a plethora of medical issues in all my dogs, and if you are ever in this situation, muzzles can be a lifesaver! Just this week I’ve used a:
1. Pica muzzle to make sure the cause of moss issues was not ingesting a mysterious unknown toxin
2. Basket muzzle to prevent a mass on the mouth from being broken open
3. Pica muzzle to prevent licking a foot injury
4. Basket muzzle while Merlin had a painful wound culture done at the vet, to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable during a stressful moment!

You can also use muzzles for p**p eating, rock swallowing, stick chewing, surgical recovery, jaw injuries, reduce dog to dog infection risk, prevent leash biting, prevent line biting in lure coursing sports, and much MUCH more!

There are so many types of muzzles on the market for different purposes, I recommend trying a few to find the one that works best for you!

My dogs mainly use the Birdwell Muzzle, which you can find here (I like how cheap and easy it is!):
