Luka is checking in!

He's almost 2yrs old.

I've never worked with a Dalmatian, so I'm really excited to have this opportunity.

He's a very smart boy, but struggles to go from go go go to slow. He's 100% all the time and doesn't know how to settle.

Your dog isn't giving you a hard time just for the fun of it.

Sometimes, we're unknowingly teaching them the very behaviors that drive us CRAZY.

Take jumping, for example. One day it's cute when they jump up to give you hugs, but the next day you're frustrated because they're jumping all over your guests.

Here's the thing: Your dog doesn't automatically know the difference.

And that's where consistency comes in!

You don't have to be perfect. But you DO need to be clear about what you expect from your dog and follow through.

The rules shouldn't change depending on who's walking through the door.

The secret is sleep!

When a puppy gets extra nippy, I often ask how much sleep they're getting throughout the day. And the answer is usually not a lot. Maybe a few little 5-10 min snuggle naps on the couch.

An overtired puppy (much like overtired babies) can act more wild and crazy. Keeping your puppy awake all day playing may be making the biting worse.

Give your puppy plenty of breaks and naps throughout the day. Preferably in a nice quiet space (kennel or crate) away from the busy areas of your house.

Puppies need average of 16hrs of sleep a day depending on their age.

Sometimes your little land shark just needs a nap.

Mercy the Goldendoodle is wrapping up her first week of training with us. Technically this would count as week 2? Since she did puppy camp a few months ago.

This first week was spent refreshing her foundational skills and teaching her a few new things.

She learned:
- How to walk without pulling
- No jumping when you meet new ppl
- Come when called
- Place
- Stay
- Don't rush out the doorway, wait until directed
- Control her impluses

A lot of these she learned during puppy camp but as she matured she needed a little bit of a reminder.

We accomplished a lot in such a short time but we still have work to do!

This next week we will begin adding some distractions to the mix. Asking her to still listen and respond even when it might be difficult for her too. Like when new ppl are around or squirrels run by or when other dogs are barking.
