The theme for lessons this weekend was puppies, puppies, and more puppies. When the owners first reached out, one common questions was what is the right age to start training?
The answer: as soon as they come home!
Your tiny, squishy, adorable puppy may act like a little angel when they come home, but they won’t stay like that if given the chance. Most dogs, especially teenager puppies aren’t “Bad”, they just don’t know what is expected of them and what is not. By starting early on showing your puppy clear communication, expectations, and boundaries, you are setting them up for a lifetime of success. Instead of guessing, your puppy (and soon to be adult dog) knows exactly what is expected of them because it has always been that way!
You will have your puppy for the next 10-15 years, take the time when they are babies to invest in their future and help them grow into a dog that is a joy to live with.
Now, we can absolutely retrain a dog that has learned less than desirable behaviors, but it’s just going to take a little more work😉
