You would not believe what sweet little Brody looked like when he was brought in by one of our Humane Deputies. His head had no fur on it and it was scaly and had scabs where he had been scratching his itchy skin. He had a few other patches on his body that were “hairless” also. He was a scaly, itchy mess! The “team” in Intake jumped into action helping relieve his uncomfortable condition. After weeks of medicated baths and oral medications Brody appears to have made a full recovery. He is now ready to find his “forever” home! Brody has all of his vaccinations for his age, he has a microchip, and he has been neutered. Brody is still very young. IF you adopt him teach him good doggie manners, give him lots of exercise, and cover him with hugs and kisses!

Beans is a one-year-old terrier mix that came to the shelter as a stray. Beans has a story like so many other dogs at the shelter. Some how or other he was loose running in a neighborhood. A neighbor called the shelter about picking him up and he landed at the shelter. He was never claimed by his owner and now he is available for adoption. The shelter made sure he had all of his vaccinations, he is heartworm negative, he has a microchip, and he has been neutered. He would be easy to over look because he has a short coat, he is black, and he is a terrier mix. He easily blends in with so many of the other dogs. But one thing that really stands out about Beans is his name! Whoever heard of a dog named Beans?

Ophelia was picked up by one of our kind Animal Control officers. A nice neighbor had called about a large, sweet dog roaming in the neighborhood. Sure enough, when our deputy went out, she found a big gentle dog in the lot next to the “caller’s” house. Sweet Ophelia rode in to the shelter and has waited her allotted time. She was never claimed by her family and is now ready for adoption. Ophelia has all of her vaccinations, she has a microchip, and she has been spayed. One problem did show up on her health check up. She is heartworm positive. No worries! Her treatment is already set up! Apply to foster or adopt at montgomeryhumane.com

Some dogs demand your attention. Others quietly steal your heart. Ophelia is the second kind. ❤️

At just a year and a half old, this beautiful Great Pyrenees is one of the gentlest souls you could ever hope to meet.

Ophelia is a little shy in the hustle and bustle of shelter life, but give her a moment to feel comfortable and you’ll discover a girl who wants nothing more than to lean into you and soak up every ounce of affection you’re willing to give. 🥹

Great Pyrenees are guardian breeds, known for their loyalty, independence, and protective instincts. As wonderful as they are, they’re not necessarily the right fit for every household. We encourage potential adopters to have experience with the breed or take the time to understand their unique needs before making a commitment.

So far, Ophelia has done beautifully with other dogs and even spent time hanging out with our office cat without any issues!

She’s gentle. She’s gorgeous. She’s incredibly sweet. And she’s waiting for someone to see just how special she is.

We have a feeling that once Ophelia finds her people, she’s going to love them with her whole heart. ❤️

We knew them when they were babies. We've watched them grow, their little bodies get bigger, their personalities develop, and their faces change. We've celebrated every pound gained and every milestone reached.

But while they've been growing up, the days have kept adding up, too.

Knight. Noodle. Creampuff. Penelope. Charlotte.

Five puppies who have spent a heartbreaking portion of their young lives in a shelter. Five babies who have grown up with us, but are still waiting for a family of their own.

Their photos show where they started and where they are now. The weight they've gained. The time that's passed. The little babies who are growing into young dogs right before our eyes.

We love getting to watch them grow, but we wish we were watching them grow up in homes of their own. We wish their puppyhood was filled with family adventures, cozy naps on the couch, toys scattered across living rooms, and people who couldn't imagine life without them.

Instead, they're still here. Still waiting. Still hoping someone will see them and say, "That's my dog."

Please share their photos. Tell their stories. Help us find the families they've been waiting for.

They've spent enough of their lives here. It's time for their next chapter to begin at home. ❤️

Chevelle is a funny little dog that is looking for a new home. She was found by a kind stranger when he stopped to get gas in his car downtown. Chevelle was running around the station dodging cars as they drove in and out. He took the time to put her in his car and drive her to the shelter. Chevelle was never claimed by her owners and is now available for adoption. Chevelle has all of her vaccinations, she is heartworm negative, she has a microchip, and she has been spayed. Chevelle is an active girl. She would probably be a great playmate for another dog! Do you have another dog that needs a “friend?” Well bring him or her into the shelter and let’s try them out together in the play yard!

Nola is a pretty girl! Just look at her shiny black coat with the brown “trim” in all the right places! Nola was “at large” in a neighborhood here in town. A concerned citizen was worried that she might be hit by a car or get into some trouble with other neighborhood dogs. So Animal Control was called for her safety. Pretty Nola was never claimed by her family and is now ready for adoption. She has all of her vaccinations, she is heartworm negative, she has a microchip, and she has been spayed. Nola is a shepherd mix that is what we call a “teenage” puppy. Give her lots of exercise and plenty of love and you will have a devoted friend for many years.

Buddy recently went through a terrible loss. His owner died and no one was able to take him into their family. So Buddy is back at the shelter to try one more time to find a home. Buddy has all of his vaccinations, he is heartworm negative, he has a microchip, and he has been neutered. Buddy is a sweet boy that would love to find a home where he could spend his “retirement” years. Buddy is about nine years old. He won’t require much activity. A nice walk in the mornings and evening, a soft bed to sleep and nap in, and good food for a senior dog and lots and lots of treats because he is such a good boy. Have you thought about opening your home to a senior dog?

Meet Whitley, a stunning young Merle pittie who just happens to be clinically blind. But don’t tell Whitley she’s different, because she certainly doesn’t act like it!

Whitley relies heavily on her senses of smell and hearing to navigate the world around her. And while she hasn’t seemed to mind her time with us, we know the shelter environment can be overwhelming for a dog who depends so much on those two senses. The constant barking, unfamiliar smells, and never-ending activity make it difficult for her to experience the peace and predictability she deserves.

Whitley needs a foster family or, even better, a forever home! ❤️

She’s looking for someone willing to make a few adjustments to help her navigate her surroundings safely and confidently. A consistent furniture arrangement, a little patience, and a predictable routine can make a world of difference for a visually impaired dog.

And please don’t mistake her blindness for helplessness!

Whitley has ALL the energy, personality, and s***k you’d expect from a young pittie! She wants to play, explore, love, and experience life just like any other dog. Her blindness hasn’t slowed her down for a single second!

Whitley doesn’t need someone to feel sorry for her. She needs someone willing to see everything she’s capable of, even if she can’t see them. ❤️

We know there’s a special family out there who can give this beautiful girl the life she deserves. Help us find them!

Apply to foster or adopt at Montgomeryhumane.com 🐾

And if you can’t bring Whitley home, please share her story. The right person may be just one share away.

Meet Whitley! Proof that a little thing like being blind can't dim a beautiful soul!

Whitley is a beautiful Terrier mix, a little over a year old and weighing around 50 pounds. She came to us as a stray, and sadly, no one ever came to claim her. Once her stray hold was over, we noticed that this sweet girl seemed to navigate the world a little differently. After an evaluation by our wonderful veterinarian, we learned that Whitley is clinically blind.

But here's the thing about Whitley… SHE HASN'T LET THAT SLOW HER DOWN ONE BIT!

We are amazed by how well she gets around, and she hasn't lost her love for life for even a second! Whitley is the sweetest, happiest, most playful girl who is ready to show the world that she still has SO much love to give. She's done well with other dogs here at the shelter and has been nothing but sweet to our staff. This girl doesn't need perfect eyesight to enjoy the good things in life... she just needs someone willing to see the good in her.

Whitley has been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated, and she's heartworm negative. She's checked all her shelter boxes, and now there's just one thing missing… a family to call her own.

We know a special girl like Whitley may need a special kind of adopter, but we promise she's worth taking a chance on. She deserves a home where she can feel safe, loved, and cherished for exactly who she is.

Give Whitley a chance to steal your heart! Apply to adopt at montgomeryhumane.com.
