We go to the vet A LOT 😬 Even when we show up with difficult cases and frowns on our faces, the Veterinary Technicians always put their best foot forward to help us and our animals.

It’s Vet Tech Week so we wanted to give a special shout out to several of the techs who make our world go round 🌎: Ashlan (Pet Care Center), Emma, Amy, and Ashlyn (Pike Road Mobile Veterinary Services), and Rory and Makayla (Cavanaugh-Bradley Animal Hospital).

Not all are pictured, but all are appreciated 😊

Hurray for Pike Road Mobile Veterinary Services!

On Friday, Mary Margaret and Kulfi visited with Dr. Nelson for vaccines, medications, and plans for future treatment.

MM successfully completed heartworm treatment. A miracle, if you ask us. Five months ago we trapped an elusive dog who spent six years running from anybody who dared to approach her. She was carrying over 20lbs of fluid in her abdomen. Today, well, you can see for yourself how much she must have missed human touch 🥹 next for MM is another echocardiogram to see if her heart condition has improved before she is ready for adoption! The scan will cost us over $350.

Kulfi needed bloodwork to start HW treatment. He came to us after spending over 6 months in a shelter in Dothan. Kulfi is super friendly, sweet, and a couch potato at heart. He ate a whole bag of treats, was prescribed his pre-injection meds, and handled being poked like a champ. HW protocol generally costs us around $1200.

From now until the foreseeable future, every person who donates $10 or more will receive a vinyl RRAR sticker via mail. Some with our original logo, some with the current logo—its sticker roulette!

When you donate, please be sure to add your shipping address so we can send you our thanks and your sticker 🥳

As always, we are so appreciative of your support as we work to save, treat, and rehome pets like these.

18 volunteers, 4 hours of vaccine time, over 120 pets vaccinated ‼️

We had an unexpectedly large turnout for vaccines and microchips in Prattville today! In combination with the Montgomery clinic, we’ve provided low cost protection from preventable diseases to almost 300 pets 🥳 An astounding number for an incredibly worthy cause 💕

This clinic was made possible thanks to a Community Cares grant from the Banfield Foundation, the assistance of veterinarians, veterinary students, and staff from Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine, and a wonderful event invitation from Prattville/Autauga Humane Society.

We appreciate the patience of our attendees, hardworking volunteers from RRAR and TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY, and the grant that made this all possible.

While the grant cycle itself is over, we recognize that there is a substantial need for low cost vaccination services in our state. Times are tough. One of our goals in the new year will be to continue offering these services in the River Region and beyond.

We feel it’s important to give back to the communities that give so much to us. This is just the beginning 😉

Say hello to the new kid on the block, formerly known as Jonesy🐾, now known as Kulfi 🍦

We went down to Dothan to tour the incredible facility at Wiregrass Pets Rescue and Adoption, but, of course, we couldn’t leave empty handed 😅

Unfortunately for Kulfi, he is an all black mix and HW+ so he didn’t have much interest during his 6.5 months onsite. Some facilities simply can’t afford HW treatment for infected dogs, and that was the case here.

Fortunately for Kulfi, he was surrounded by great people who took very good care of him. We’re honored to take it from here 🙏🏻

We will be posting soon to raise funds for Kulfi’s HW protocol, which will start this week with Pike Road Mobile Veterinary Services. We’re so grateful for supporters like you that help us save and treat dogs like this.

We would also still love to save Stabler who we posted last week, but we need a foster home first! Apply at www.rrarsquad.org

Mason was supposed to be euthanized last week. His owners brought him into a local clinic to end his life because it no longer suited theirs 😞

You’ve heard this story on our page before: a pet is brought in for convenience euthanasia, the vet refuses, an advocate at the partner vet contacts us, and we scramble to find space before it’s too late. And scramble we did.

Mason 🫙 is safe.

His eyes are showing normal, age related clouding; his ears don’t work quite as good as they used to. He has no known medical or behavioral concerns that would be considered worthy of euthanasia. He’s dog friendly and house trained, too. A purebred, pure hearted good boy. The problem? Mason got old.

And old dogs move a little slower, sleep a little more, and play a little less. Maybe they’re a little less convenient or cute or cuddly.

In our world, it’s a privilege to love a dog through their senior years. After all, they’ve spent their whole lives looking after us. So, rather than letting his life end for being an old dog, the privilege of finding him somebody to care for through his golden years will be ours.

Welcome home, Mason.

*Mason is headed to the vet today for vaccines, a tear test, and HW testing. He will also be neutered. If you’d like to donate to Mason’s care, please see below. Thank you for considering a donation for Mason!
