Big thanks go out today to the boys with the toys! My brothers, Pete Steuck (Buckaway Acres), John Steuck (Westmont Farms), and nephew, Jason Steuck (Buckaway Acres) brought in the heavy equipment to help us out. I can't imagine how long this would have taken without them.
We're still not sure how the mares in the barn with the tree in it came out unharmed; they have not a scratch on them, not even Luna who was at the end where all the damage was. We moved them to this barn yesterday so they could stand in front of the fans during this heat wave. Otherwise, they would have been in the lean to that lost the entire roof. Either way, I'm sure it was quite an experience. Luna is our walking barometer here, she's very in tune to storms and doesn't like them, but she was pretty calm when we found her standing right next to the tree that came through the barn wall. Fortunately, we have an empty barn right now where they can stay until we get rebuilt and fences back up.
We're going to have a lot of fencework to do. There were SO many branches that came down and of course, straight onto the fences. Dac is at the trainer's right now, so he missed out on this. Good thing because his wood fence is down. We have railroad ties as the posts in his pen and 3 were snapped right off.
All in all, we're ok here, just have a little work ahead of us, but a lot less thanks to the crew that showed up today.
And thank you to everyone else who called & messaged to offer helpful hands. We appreciate you!
Here's a couple pictures, some have a description of what you're looking at. Make sure to check out the last one, that gave us a pretty good laugh at the end of the day.
