Remember Asta? 💙

Just a few months ago, this sweet Vizsla puppy came to us struggling with chronic diarrhea and poor weight gain. An abdominal ultrasound revealed an intussusception—a serious condition where one section of the intestine slides into another, creating a blockage that can quickly become life-threatening if left untreated.

Asta underwent surgery with Dr. Smatt, and today he stopped by for a visit...

🐾 He's gained 21 pounds since surgery!

Seeing Asta now compared to when he first came through our doors is nothing short of amazing. From a puppy who couldn't gain weight to a thriving, healthy, growing boy, his transformation is exactly why we never ignore ongoing digestive issues.

☀️ We all begged for warmer weather... and Mother Nature delivered! ☀️

As temperatures climb, it's important to remember that heat can become dangerous for pets much faster than most people realize.

🐾 A few hot weather reminders for pet parents:

• Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
• Always provide access to fresh, clean water.
• Never leave pets in parked vehicles—even with the windows cracked.
• Check pavement with the back of your hand. If it's too hot for you to hold for 7 seconds, it's too hot for paws.
• Watch for signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, bright red gums, or collapse.

🚨 Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you suspect your pet is overheating, move them immediately to a cool, shaded or air-conditioned area and contact a veterinarian right away. Begin cooling with cool (not ice-cold) water, especially on the belly, paw pads, and groin area, while arranging transport to the hospital. Even if your pet seems to recover, they should still be evaluated by a veterinarian.

We’re a privately owned, community-focused veterinary hospital located in beautiful Monroe, NY. Our passionate team includes two incredible veterinarians, and together, we’ve built a welcoming, trust-filled environment for our clients and their beloved pets. We’re now looking to grow our front desk crew with a fun-loving, independent, and compassionate Client Service Representative (CSR)!

✨ What You’ll Be Doing:

As one of the first faces clients see when they walk in or call, you’ll play a huge role in ensuring they feel cared for and confident in the services we provide. Your day-to-day will include:

Answering phones and scheduling appointments with a smile
Greeting clients and checking them in (and sneaking in a few pet cuddles!)
Assisting with questions about our services and general pet care
Processing payments and keeping client accounts up-to-date
Keeping our reception area tidy, inviting, and pet-friendly

Tiny kittens may be small, but they need a lot of specialized care to grow into healthy cats. 🐱🩺

From monitoring weight gain and hydration to checking for parasites, eye infections, and proper nutrition, those first few weeks are incredibly important — especially for orphaned or rescued kittens.

This little baby had Dr. Smatt and Jocelyn wrapped around their tiny paws during their visit today. 💕 We’re pretty sure the “medical assistant” role was mostly just cuddles and moral support. 🥹

This time of year, snapping turtles are often crossing roads looking for places to nest. While they may look intimidating, they’re just trying to get where they need to go safely.

If you see a turtle crossing the road:
🚗 Slow down
⚠️ Watch for movement near ponds, streams, and wetlands
🛑 Avoid swerving suddenly into other lanes
❤️ Give them space and time to cross safely

Every turtle safely crossing the road helps protect local wildlife and keeps our ecosystem healthy.

Two of our patients, Lacey & Riggs, escaped from their fence this morning and have been missing for the past couple of hours. Their family is out searching and extremely worried.

Please keep an eye out and check your yards, garages, porches, and surrounding areas. If anyone sees them or has any information, please contact us immediately or message the page.
