On April 4, Felix responded to a good Samaritan's call for aid. A Mallard duck had been mortally injured near the Mason Library. Further inspection revealed a clutch of 13 eggs! Momma duck had given her life to protect her brood.
Her efforts gave us pause. And her clutch was placed in an incubator. Only time would tell if the eggs had survived, and if they would be strong enough to hatch.
Well, we didn't have to wait long! Happy Spring to you all!

My heart is heavy. Nimble has been diagnosed with Metabolic Bone Disease, caused by inadequate calcium in her diet. Now compounded with what appears to be kidney failure, it seems unlikely she will survive.
She is comfortable, sleeping in her nest. If she continues to decline at this pace, I will probably euthanize tomorrow.

Nimble is slightly improved today. She has taken some veggies and has had some poops. More supportive care today and we will probably proceed with bloodwork tomorrow.
