This month’s group class was different than the usual monthly Drop-in group class. It was a small, focused session that let us focus on each dog’s lingering or new behavioral issues. We also socialized the dogs around others, which owners may be hesitant to do on their own. This class focused on stopping unwanted behavior like aggression and reactivity. We set up the behaviors to bring out the dog’s issues so we can desensitize or correct them to help the dog make better choices and get in a better state of mind. Everyone really appreciated the work we did and the progress made.

Note: We will announce doing more of these special Group Reactivity Workshops in addition to the regular Drop-in monthly group classes going forward.

Our Free Drop-In Group Classes are a revolving program (March–November). So each month, as new dogs come in, other dogs filter out. Woof, Woof. After completing (or before, by permission) one of our training packages, you can transition into our Drop-In Group Classes. So you'll be safe among peers who are probably facing the same issues. Sit, speak. Roll over.

Exciting update! If you completed your training between 2018 and the launch of our unlimited group classes, and haven’t been back since, you can now join as many group classes as you’d like (space limited)! We’d love to see you again! We will meet at our original meeting area, right behind the Maine Memorial Statue’s open area, just steps from the entrance to Central Park West @ 59 St.

Please check your e-blast for class details, the link to RSVP, and the map.

Learn new handling and defensive street skills, have fun learning with games and agility challenges, challenge yourself and your dog while building confidence, meet other dog owners like you who have faced similar issues, and get answers to pressing questions. And the best part? You'll have a fantastic time while doing it all!

What's Hiding in Some Dog Toys? Common Plastic Chemical Linked to Anxiety in New Animal Study

Researchers presenting at ENDO 2026, one of the world's leading endocrinology conferences, reported that lab animals exposed early in life to DEHP, a plastic softening chemical commonly used in some PVC products, developed significantly more anxiety-like behavior as adults.

While this study has not yet been published, it adds to growing concerns about all of the endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in the environment. DEHP and related phthalates have been detected in soft vinyl pet products, including toys, bowls, collars, bedding, and other flexible PVC items.

Step 1: Choose pet toys made with materials such as natural rubber, organic cotton, h**p, wool, and food-grade silicone to help reduce unnecessary exposure.

Step 2: Use GABA to your advantage if your pup has anxiety. When the researchers targeted GABA pathways (one of the brain's primary calming systems), the anxiety improved . This is especially relevant because the gut microbiome can influence GABA signaling through the gut-brain axis.

This is one reason Dr. Karen Becker includes the GABA-promoting strain LP815™ in PRIMITIVE PROBIOTICS™. In a placebo-controlled study, dogs receiving LP815™ showed improvements in fear, aggression, noise sensitivity, separation-related behaviors, sleep quality, and overall emotional balance.

Want a science-backed probiotic that supports both digestive and emotional wellness?

Crystal, like so many of us, was desperately trying to manage REACTIVE dogs.

Do we “surrender” them? No.

Post them to “rehome” to random strangers? Nope.

Do we blame the dogs rather than our own failures as a dog owner? Yep.

Do we obtain professional training like a responsible adult dog owner. YUP!!!!!BINGO WAS HIS NAME-0 🎯👏🏻👏🏻

We call Spot-On K9 Training in Fairfield County, CT

Here’s what Crystal had so say;

“Before training, Kyro was extremely reactive on leash around other dogs. He’s such a great, active dog, and I knew he needed to learn how to be off-leash so he could enjoy more freedom—it’s truly what he craves. Baz was the complete opposite: very shy and timid. He wouldn’t walk on busy streets, wouldn’t walk past men, and would shut down almost immediately.

Today, they are both completely different dogs. They’ve gained so much confidence and freedom, and we take full advantage of it every day. Their recall is excellent, even around distractions, and they can enjoy life in ways they couldn’t before.

I can’t thank Spot-On K9 training enough for everything they taught us. It was an absolute pleasure working with them, and I would highly recommend Spot-On K9 Training to anyone looking to give their dog the skills and freedom to thrive.”

Below is a fantastic new Google Review from my client, Crystal, posted after our last class. I am so proud of Crystal’s accomplishments with her two dogs, Kyro and Baz! We trained for both behavior modification and off-leash e-collar recall training. What a great transformation!

Dr. Karen Becker, foreverdoglife.com

Research shows that feeding dogs blueberries as treats can support healthier aging by helping reduce oxidative stress, a key driver of cellular damage over time. Blueberries are rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, compounds linked to improved antioxidant status, brain health, and reduced inflammation in both animal and canine studies.

In sled dog and feeding trials, blueberry supplementation has been shown to increase antioxidant capacity, helping protect cells from damage associated with exercise and aging.

Emerging research also suggests these compounds may help defend DNA from oxidative stress, supporting overall cellular resilience. Interestingly, studies comparing fresh and frozen blueberries have found that freezing preserves these antioxidants and may even increase their measured availability. This happens because ice crystal formation breaks down cell walls, making anthocyanins easier to release when consumed.

Combined with the fact that frozen berries are typically harvested at peak ripeness, they can deliver antioxidant levels equal to or even higher than fresh store-bought berries. Together, the evidence suggests blueberries, especially when fed regularly, are a simple, functional addition that may help support your dog’s long-term health and aging process. — Start with ¼ to ½ tsp per 10 lbs of body weight a day.

Have you been looking for a sign 🪧 because this is it, we promise ✨👏🏻🙏🏼

📍CT - Stormy, BARC’s longest resident in the care of BARC is becoming a phenomenon—he’s as close to the perfect dog as we’ve ever had, yet somehow he’s still without a home. It’s craaaazy! How can this be?

Stormy’s the kind of dog that you rarely find in rescue because he’s soft, sweet and easy going AND professionally trained by Spot-On K9 Training 🙌🏻✨ Stormy knows a bunch of commands, he’s always looking to his owner for guidance in a very obedient way.

He’s super well behaved and adores all people and dogs alike!!

Stormy is a young adult, but has a calm demeanor and is kind of an old. He will do especially well with other very low key dogs
Approx 70-75 lbs
Does fantastic with another dog in that age range or older 🙂 He’s very respectful of space with other dogs too
Crate trained like a champ 💪🏻
Housebroken 🙌🏻
Neutered vaccinated mc and healthy ✨
Loves car rides and adventures 🚗
Excellent with dogs
Very calm and chill
Stormy’s always down for anything fun or anything that involves couch snuggles and nappy time ✨🥰

Funny story: Stormy was in the car waiting for his foster mom to get in on the other side. This big lug accidentally stepped on the button and locked the car—with his foster
Mom’s purse (and only set of keys) in the car. After calling AAA and waiting for a bit, Stormy got tired of waiting and managed to UNlock the car by hitting the same button 😅😂😂 What a good boy🐾 😂🥰
