Do you think dogs are just born loving the water, or do they learn it from their mom? 🌊🐾

Today Earl had his first trip down to the river, and I think it's safe to say he had the time of his life. He spent the afternoon chasing after his mom, convinced he could keep up with every step she took.

The funny part? His mom wasn't exactly worried about whether he was still behind her. 😂 Every time she wandered too far ahead, Earl would stop and bark as if to say, "Hey! You forgot me!" It sounded like a tiny crime scene echoing through the trees.

Even after all that running, he never wanted the adventure to end. He gave it everything he had... until those little puppy legs finally decided they were done for the day. ❤️ We ended up carrying him back to the car while he soaked up all the cuddles after his big adventure.

If I had to describe Earl in a few words, they'd be sweet, affectionate, easygoing, and happiest when he's with his people. He's the kind of puppy who just wants to be included in whatever you're doing.
Watching these F1B Mini Bernedoodles discover new places and experiences is one of my favorite parts of raising them. Every outing helps build confidence, curiosity, and a love for exploring the world.

Now I'm curious...
Do you think Earl is going to grow up to be a true water dog, or do you think today was just about following Mom wherever she went? I'd love to hear your guess!

Sometimes the right home isn't the first home—and that's okay. ❤️

For about a week, Gertie got to experience life with a wonderful family. They poured so much love into her, spent time training her, and helped her build even more confidence. Through no fault of her own, life changed, and she came back to us.

One thing that experience confirmed is exactly what we've always known about her.
She's incredibly adaptable.
I took her into town this week for another socialization adventure, and she made me smile the entire time. She walked beautifully on her leash, happily sat or laid down every time we stopped, and absolutely adored meeting new people.

The only challenge?
Trying to convince her that she didn't have to visit every single person for pets. 😂 She'd bounce back and forth making sure nobody accidentally missed giving her attention. She has just enough goofy energy to keep you laughing, but such a gentle, loving heart that everyone she meets falls for her.

She's still the same sweet, slightly awkward little girl we've always known... and honestly, nobody—including Gertie herself—ever knows exactly what she's going to do next. That's part of her charm.
Watching puppies grow into their own personalities is one of my favorite parts of raising F1B Mini Bernedoodles.

Every one of them is different, and Gertie has become one of those dogs that makes ordinary days feel a little happier.

Today she's 13 weeks old, up to date on her vaccinations, and continuing to learn something new every day.

I'm curious...
What's one personality trait your dog has that makes you laugh every single day?

Okay, we have had a lot of back and forth but we do have two little wiggle bottoms! Agnes has found her family though 🥰 Going to start posting again this week as a lot of things were up in the air last week! Something broke on my computer yet again so I'm not able to update my website. I might get to fixing it this week. But otherwise feel free to message me for any more information!

Things Gertrude has:

✓ Excellent manners
✓ The sweetest temperament
✓ Approximately 14 beautiful brain cells

Things Gertrude does not have:

✓ Any idea what those 14 brain cells are supposed to be doing

This is especially confusing because Gertrude is genuinely the calmest puppy of the bunch.

She's not bouncing off the walls.

She's not looking for trouble.

Trouble just occasionally finds Gertrude and she seems to think, “yeah that sounds reasonable.”

She's 12 weeks old now and I swear every week her personality gets better. She's sweet, ridiculously affectionate, easygoing, and just weird enough that living with her is never boring.

I don't think Gertrude needs someone who wants a perfect dog.

I think she needs someone who appreciates a dog with lore.

Agnes learned something very important today.

Mom can swim.

Agnes could not.

This presented a problem.

Because wherever Mom goes, Agnes has already decided Agnes also goes.

There was just one minor issue…

The ground disappeared. 😂

So everybody took turns holding her in the water, letting her paddle, helping her feel safe, and showing her that yes—those little legs actually DO work when there isn’t any ground underneath them.

A little farther each time.

Hold her.

Let her paddle.

Build her confidence.

Try again.

Until suddenly…

She was swimming.

Actually swimming.

And I swear you could almost see the exact second she realized:

OH.

I CAN DO THIS.

And then there was no stopping her.

This is my favorite thing about Agnes.

She approaches basically everything in life with the assumption that she probably belongs there and she’ll figure out the details when she arrives.

New people?

Friends.

New place?

Excellent.

Mom suddenly becomes aquatic?

Give Agnes five minutes.

Nobody:

Absolutely nobody:

Earl: 👁️👁️

I have never met a puppy who communicates this much without actually saying anything.

Earl has approximately 47 different facial expressions and somehow 43 of them are just his eyes.

There's:

“I would like to be held.”

“I noticed you stopped petting me.”

“That was a questionable decision.”

“I have been waiting for breakfast for nine years.”

“I love you more than anything in the entire world.”

And my personal favorite:

“I know what you did.”

We don't know what you did.

Earl does.

Underneath all of those opinions is genuinely one of the gentlest little puppies I've ever met.

He's smart, affectionate, ridiculously loyal, and has this funny way of attaching himself to a person and just… staying there.

No announcement.

No paperwork.

Congratulations. You have been selected by the bear.

Update: RESERVED

I need someone to explain Gertrude to me.

This puppy will spend 90% of her day acting like a tiny retired woman. She is calm. She is quiet. She minds her business. She would probably enjoy watching birds from a screened-in porch.

And then suddenly—

She gets this look in her eye and makes a decision that absolutely no one with a functioning brain would have made. 😂

Then five minutes later she's back to being the sweetest, calmest puppy in the entire litter like nothing happened.

Gertrude is 12 weeks old now and somehow getting funnier the older she gets. She's still my little phantom merle weirdo, still incredibly sweet, and still convinced personal space is more of a suggestion than a rule.

I genuinely cannot decide what kind of person Gertrude would be if she were human.

I'm leaning toward someone's eccentric aunt who has plenty of money, no children, an oddly specific hobby, and a story nobody in the family is allowed to talk about.

Agnes has never once considered the possibility that something might not involve her.

So when Mom took off running through the river…

Well.

Apparently we’re river dogs now.

She spent the afternoon following her mom everywhere she possibly could—through the water, over rocks, up the bank, back through the water again—trying her absolute hardest to keep up.

If Mom went somewhere, Agnes was approximately three feet behind her going, “WAIT FOR ME I’M ALSO DOING THAT.”

And honestly, this is exactly why I love taking puppies places like this.

Confidence isn’t something they magically wake up with one day.

It’s built in a hundred tiny moments where they experience something new, realize they’re safe, and think…

Oh.

I can do this.

And having Mom there showing her the ropes made Agnes approximately 400% braver.

By the end, she wasn’t thinking twice about running straight through the water.

Which is very Agnes.

She has never met a person she didn’t immediately consider a friend, never found an activity she didn’t assume she was invited to, and apparently has never seen her mother do something without thinking:

Yeah. I can probably do that too.
