Not every riding lesson happens in the saddle. ❤️
Tonight we worked on a simple exercise using opposite arm/leg combinations to see which diagonal patterns felt strongest and which ones were harder to coordinate.
Why? Because riders are rarely perfectly symmetrical. One side may stabilize better, one hip may be stronger, one diagonal may coordinate more naturally — and all of that can show up in the saddle as leaning, collapsing, twisting, difficulty on one rein, or asking the horse to compensate for us.
Sometimes the best way to improve the horse/rider partnership is to first figure out what the rider’s body is doing.
A little awkward? Absolutely. 😂
Useful? Very.
Good riding is about so much more than just “getting on and going around.” It’s balance, body awareness, coordination, strength, timing, and learning how to become a clearer partner for the horse. ❤️🐴
