These two French Bulldogs show just how different breeding priorities can change the way a dog looks.
On the left is Arnie, a former AKC show French Bulldog.
On the right is Flint, bred in the Netherlands by Hawbucks French Bulldogs, a breeder focused on creating a healthier and more athletic version of the breed.
Hawbucks deliberately selects for traits such as a longer muzzle, more balanced proportions, better movement and easier breathing.
The difference is immediately noticeable.
Modern French Bulldogs are famous for their flat faces and compact bodies, but those exaggerated features can also be linked to serious breathing and health problems.
Breeders like Hawbucks are trying to move in the opposite direction by producing dogs that still look recognisably French Bulldog, but with fewer extreme physical traits.
It is a striking reminder that selective breeding does not just change how animals look.
It can also change how comfortably they live.
