Today we pay tribute to a very special cat, Moocher, who called a local business in Loxley, Alabama home for approximately five years.
Moocher was a stray who was most likely abandoned there, but the people at the business quickly fell in love with him. His friendly nature, sweet personality, and happy-go-lucky attitude made him part of the establishment. Although he was neutered and vaccinated, his home was still outside, tucked away in the bushes near a busy parking lot.
Many people stopped by to feed him, visit with him, and share a little love. He became a familiar face and a beloved friend to employees and customers alike.
About a month ago, Moocher was struck by a vehicle. We hope it was a tragic accident. If anyone has information about what happened, we would appreciate hearing from you.
After the accident, Moocher disappeared. Remarkably, he survived and returned nearly four weeks later, suffering from shock and unimaginable pain. We got him to the veterinarian, where X-rays revealed devastating injuries—a broken pelvis and two severely broken back legs that could not be saved.
With heavy hearts, we had to help Moocher make his journey to the Rainbow Bridge.
Although we could not save him, he spent his final week surrounded by love, receiving food, comfort, and care. He will be laid to rest in one of our volunteer’s pet cemeteries, where he will be remembered always.
Fly high, Moocher. You were one of the good ones. The business won’t be the same without you, and neither will the lives of the people who loved you.
