🌀🐾 HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS & IMPORTANT CLINIC UPDATE! 🐾🌀

As we prepare for potential severe weather, all of us at Old Shell Animal Hospital want to remind our clients that hurricane preparedness includes our four-legged family members, too! ❤️

⚠️ IMPORTANT OFFICE UPDATE:
Our hospital will be closing at 4:00 PM on Friday, October 9th, due to the potential for severe weather. Please plan accordingly for your pet’s needs!

🐶🐱 HURRICANE SAFETY TIPS FOR PET OWNERS:

💊 Stock Up on Medications: Make sure your pets have enough prescription medications, special diets, and necessary supplies to last at least 7 days. Please contact our office ahead of our closure for any needed refills!

🎒 Prepare a Pet Emergency Kit: Include food, bottled water, medications, bowls, leashes, carriers, litter, waste bags, and a copy of your pet’s medical records.

🏷️ Check Identification: Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with updated contact information and that their microchip registration is current.

🏡 Bring Pets Inside: Never leave pets outdoors during severe weather! Make sure they have a safe, quiet space inside your home.

🐾 Plan for Anxiety: Thunder, strong winds, and changes in routine can be frightening for pets. If your pet struggles with storm anxiety, contact us BEFORE the storm to discuss safe options.

🚗 Have an Evacuation Plan: If you need to evacuate, take your pets with you! Know which hotels and shelters are pet-friendly, and have carriers ready.

🔦 Prepare for Power Outages: Keep extra water available, store pet food properly, and have flashlights and supplies accessible.

🍂 Fall is almost here (hopefully), and while we’re ready for cooler weather, pumpkin everything, and cozy evenings, there are a few seasonal hazards pet owners should keep in mind!

🐾 Fleas and ticks are still active… especially here in South Alabama, so year-round prevention is important.

🍄 Watch for mushrooms and other unfamiliar plants popping up in the yard. Some can be toxic if eaten.

🍬 Keep Halloween candy out of reach. Chocolate, xylitol, raisins, and certain wrappers can all cause serious problems for pets.

🌙 With the days getting shorter, make sure your pet is visible during evening walks with reflective collars, leashes, or lights.

🤧 Fall allergies can affect pets too! Itchy skin, licking paws, ear infections, and excessive scratching may be signs your pet needs a little extra help.

A little prevention can go a long way toward keeping your pets happy, healthy, and safe this season. 🍁🐶🐱

🐾 Attention Existing Clients! 🐾

Sweet Ellie is looking for her forever home! 🏡💕

Ellie originally came to us through a TNR program, but since being here, she has made it VERY clear that the outdoor life is not for her, this girl is ready to be a spoiled indoor house cat. 😂

She absolutely loves attention and will talk to you until you give her the pets she’s asking for. She even allows belly rubs! The second you open her kennel, she wants to climb right into your arms and snuggle. 🥹

Ellie is approximately 6 months old, spayed, and up to date on her vaccines. She previously lived outdoors with other cats, so she is accustomed to having feline friends. She weighs just 4 lbs and has the prettiest medium-length coat!

Her sponsor’s biggest priority is making sure Ellie goes to a wonderful, responsible home with continued veterinary care. Because of this, we are looking for an adopter who is already an established client with Old Shell Animal Hospital.
