Daily Training Tip: Train Before the Problem Happens
One of the best ways to improve your dog’s behavior is to practice before things get exciting.
Do not wait until your dog is already jumping, barking, pulling, or overexcited.
Practice calm behavior before guests arrive.
Practice calm behavior before the leash goes on.
Practice calm behavior before the food bowl hits the floor.
When you train before the problem happens, your dog has a better chance to think, listen, and make good choices.
Once a dog is already overstimulated, training becomes much harder.
Set your dog up for success by practicing the behavior you want before the situation gets too exciting.
Good training starts before the problem begins.

**Daily Training Tip: Use Your Dog’s Name Correctly**

Your dog’s name should not mean they are in trouble.

It should mean, “Look at me. Pay attention.”

A simple way to build this is to say your dog’s name one time, then reward them when they look at you.

Do not repeat it over and over.

Do not use it only when you are frustrated.

When your dog hears their name, you want them to think something good is about to happen.

That creates focus, engagement, and better communication.

Practice this in short moments throughout the day.

Say their name, mark the eye contact with “Yes,” then reward.

**Daily Training Tip: Keep Sessions Short**

Training does not have to take all day.

In fact, short sessions are usually better.

Two to five minutes of focused practice can help your dog learn faster, stay engaged, and avoid frustration.

Long sessions can cause a dog to get tired, distracted, or overwhelmed. When that happens, training stops being fun and progress slows down.

Keep it simple.

Pick one skill, practice a few good repetitions, reward the effort, and end on a win.

A short, successful session is always better than a long session that turns into a struggle.
