SEPTEMBER IS ANIMAL PAIN AWARENESS MONTH!

When your pet is hurting, it can be tempting to reach for something from your own medicine cabinet. But medications that are safe for people can be dangerous—even toxic—to dogs and cats.
We have medications specifically formulated and prescribed for pets that can safely help manage pain and other conditions.

If your pet is hurting, always consult your veterinarian before giving ANY medication. Even if you've given it before, the correct medication and dosage can depend on your pet's species, size, age, health, and other medications they may be taking.

When in doubt, give us a call! We'd much rather answer your questions than have your pet experience a preventable medication emergency.

Our pets can’t tell us when something hurts—but they can show us. Learning to recognize subtle changes in your pet’s behavior can help you identify pain sooner and get them the care they need.
Signs your pet may be experiencing pain:
• Limping or difficulty getting up
• Decreased activity or reluctance to play
• Whining, crying, or unusual vocalization
• Hiding or becoming less social
• Changes in appetite or drinking
• Excessive licking or chewing at one area
• Difficulty jumping, climbing stairs, or using the litter box
• Panting or restlessness when they aren't hot
• Changes in posture or facial expression
• Becoming unusually irritable or sensitive to touch

Remember: Pain isn't always obvious! Some pets are experts at hiding discomfort, especially with chronic conditions like arthritis.
If you notice a change in your pet—even a subtle one—give us a call. Early recognition and treatment can make a big difference in your pet's comfort and quality of life.
