Berliner Kleene 💞 This was one of my unicorns this year and it makes me swoon every time I pass by it I n the garden. It’s a bit shorter than I was expecting and the grasshoppers love it, so it’s not making a great cut flower but it is sure is pretty!

Winter Morganne sowed bright orange marigolds and now present day Morganne has to figure out what to do with them. I’m not a big fan of bold, vibrant bouquets so I’m struggling a bit. What do you all think? Too much contrast or is it perfectly bold and vibrant?

A little garden journal entry…

After 16 days away on a fire assignment, I spent another full morning getting reacquainted with the garden. Weeding, clearing, uncovering blooms that had been hiding beneath the jungle, and wondering how on earth it all got quite so wild.

This evening, I wandered back out among the flowers. I found myself daydreaming about next year’s garden—what I’ll grow again, what didn’t quite earn its place, and what I might make room for. I sampled a few green beans and sugar snap peas along the way, too.

It’s funny how the grunts and groans of a morning spent weeding seem to disappear so quickly once you slow down enough to enjoy what you’ve been working toward.
For all the hours spent planning, planting, weeding and worrying…sometimes the best part is simply wandering through it.

Ooofta…having a career in fire management does not bode well for maintaining a large garden. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was discouraged. So many flowers got smothered out by the weeds and/or went to seed but there’s still some flowers hidden within the chaos. I did some major weeding and some harsh cut backs on the statice, rudbeckia and pincushions. Hopefully, they will bounce back in the upcoming weeks. On the flips side, these asters are gorgeous! I’m looking forward to cutting a few this evening to enjoy in the house over the weekend!

Are you missing my usual flood of flower content? Me too, my friends! Unfortunately, flower season has been interrupted by fire season. Fire Camp has been my home the past few weeks. I’m looking forward to getting home next week and will flood this feed with flower content to hold me over for the weeks to follow! In the meantime, feel free to tag me in your stories of beautiful flower pictures. I would love to see what you all are growing!
