A swollen face is often more than just swelling—it can be a sign of a painful dental problem. 🦷🐶
Meet Fisher! ❤️ Fisher came to us after developing sudden swelling on her muzzle. During her oral examination, Dr. Peterman discovered that several fractured molars had become infected, leading to the painful swelling.
To relieve her pain and eliminate the source of the infection, the damaged teeth were carefully extracted. The extraction sites were then thoroughly cleaned and sutured closed to promote proper healing. Fisher was sent home with pain medication and antibiotics to keep her comfortable and help her recover.
Fractured teeth can expose the sensitive inner pulp of the tooth, allowing bacteria to enter and create painful infections beneath the gumline. Pets often continue eating and acting normally, making these problems easy to miss until swelling or other signs appear.
If your pet develops facial swelling, bad breath, has difficulty chewing, or has a broken tooth, don't wait—these can all be signs of dental disease that requires treatment.
We're so happy Fisher is on the road to recovery and feeling much more comfortable! 💙🐾

Cats with stomatitis may have difficulty eating, drool excessively, paw at their mouths, or seem less social due to discomfort. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a huge difference in their quality of life. If your cat is showing signs of oral pain, schedule a dental consultation with Dr. Peterman. Healthy mouths mean happier cats! 🐾❤️

2 weeks ago Dr. Peterman saw Griffin for his progressing stomatitis. Due to severe pain and discomfort, Griffin's owner and Dr. Peterman decided to move forward with full mouth extractions.

This week Dr. Peterman saw Griffin back for his 2 week recheck after his full mouth extractions. Griffin has been eating better, and is being more social. His owner thinks that he seems more comfortable.

The PEC Dentistry and Oral Surgery team worked on Dash. He underwent surgical excision of a mass, which was removed in its entirety with clean margins. Histopathology indicates a low likelihood of recurrence. He is recovering well post-operatively.
