Meet the Ranch Monday!
Meet Murphy!
Murphy came to us as a newborn bottle calf. She was petite enough that Jamie carried her down to the barn and placed her in a small pen next to the goat pen. Lindsay Lou bottle fed her for months and we let her out daily for supervised play time to run around with the goats. When she was finally off of the bottle and strong enough, she was out full time with the goat herd and slept with them at night. She played headbutt with them, ran and binkied when they did and basically immersed herself in goat culture. When she reached full growth it finally occurred to us, since leaving her original herd as a baby, she has never seen another cow. We have raised her as a goat, and it shows! She is clueless how large she is, and is oblivious to the length of her horns. When the goats climb on the spools, she tips them over and rolls them around. She is given a slightly wider berth at the hay pile and water trough but otherwise is treated exactly like any another goat or sheep. A big, beautiful horned beast covered in long reddish brown hair that thinks she is a goat.
