🚨 ATTENTION RESIDENTS: Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Detected at the Lake Helena Causeway 🚨

Lewis and Clark Public Health is advising residents and visitors that an active Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) has been confirmed on Lake Helena, specifically around the Causeway area.

When conditions are hot and calm, naturally occurring blue-green algae can bloom rapidly, producing toxins that can be dangerous to humans, pets, and livestock. Because the Causeway is a popular spot for recreation and access, please exercise extra caution in this area.

What you need to know to stay safe:
• When in doubt, stay out! Avoid swimming, wading, fishing, or boating in areas where the water looks green, scummy, or resembles spilled paint.
• Protect your pets: Dogs are especially vulnerable because they tend to swallow water while swimming and lick their fur afterward. Keep them out of the water near the Causeway.
• Rinse off immediately: If you, your children, or your pets accidentally come into contact with a suspected bloom, rinse off thoroughly with clean water as soon as possible.
