UPDATE ON SHADOW 🐰

Shadow is still with us and doing well! He’s currently being fostered by Esmer, but he remains confined for now as a precaution to protect her own bunny.

Shadow was treated for an upper respiratory infection and E. cuniculi, a serious parasite that can affect a rabbit’s balance and nervous system. Unfortunately, he went so long without treatment that his head tilt is now permanent. But it doesn’t stop him from living his life! 🥹

He can hop around normally and has no trouble eating or drinking. This little gentleman has been such a good boy, even though he’s been spending most his time alone.

A few things we’ve learned about Shadow:
🐇 He’s litter-box trained.
🌿 He LOVES cilantro and Timothy hay treats.
🌾 He loves his hay, but not hay cubes.
⚽ His favorite toys are rattan balls.
🩵 He’s still shy around people because he was never socialized in his previous “home”, since he was just used for breeding. However, he absolutely loves being petted and will lean into your hand for some love.

He sometimes makes a little honking sound. We’re not sure if it’s related to his history of respiratory illness or simply his way of communicating. We will make sure to get that checked out by the vet.

Despite everything he’s been through, Shadow is a sweet little soul who deserves so much more than the life he spent breeding. He deserves a home, a family, and someone who loves him for who he is.. even if he looks a little different.

We’re hoping one of our rescue partners can take him in soon, but first, he needs to be neutered.

🐰 His neuter appointment is Wednesday, and the total cost is $150.

HELP US RESTOCK OUR DOG & CAT VACCINES! 💉🐶🐱

We need your help! Our goal is to raise $240 to restock our dog and cat vaccines so we can continue helping the animals in our care AND our community.

As a rescue, vaccinating our own animals allows us to save money on veterinary office visit fees and put more of our limited funds toward helping animals in need.

But our vaccines don’t just benefit our rescue animals. We also help our community by vaccinating pets for people who cannot afford a full-service vet, as well as animals people find and are trying to help. Sometimes, our way of helping is simply providing the vaccines and meds these animals desperately need.

Unfortunately, we are currently completely OUT of vaccines. 😔 We need $240 to restock both dog and cat vaccines and continue providing this resource to our community.

If we’ve ever helped you vaccinate your pet, this is why we’re able to do it. We keep vaccines in stock to make vaccinations more accessible for those who need a little help.

Moo Moo was found roaming the streets in Donna at about 5 weeks of age. He is around 6 months old now, up to date with vaccines and neutered.

A few things about him:

• Very interested in the world around him. He is always paying attention to what the humans are doing.
• If he hears a door open, he runs to investigate. Watch out when opening outdoor doors!
• Very high energy.
• Only likes a couple of minutes of cuddles and then he's ready to go.
• Gets along with other cats, and big and small dogs, with proper introduction.

He's looking for a home that can match his high energy. Older cats see him as the annoying little brother 😆

Adoption contract required and small fee to ensure he goes to a good home. Let us know if you’d like to meet Moo! Also available for rescue transfer.

Meet Rocco! 🐶

Rocco was found alone on the street on a rainy day. Storms can frighten dogs into running away.. and once they’re disoriented, they struggle to sniff their way back home. It’s also possible Rocco escaped looking for a mate, since he isn’t neutered 😬

His finder has done EVERYTHING possible to locate his family:
✔️ Had him scanned for a microchip
✔️ Posted him on the Neighborhood app and multiple pages
✔️ Asked neighbors on the street where he was found and nearby streets if they recognized him

Unfortunately, no luck so far. Several people have even reached out with photos of their missing Frenchies, but Rocco wasn’t any of them.

We hate to think he may have been dumped, and we’re still hoping his family is out there looking for him. Our hearts go out to everyone searching for a lost pet. 💔

But while we continue searching for his owners, we also have a responsibility to care for him. Whether Rocco is eventually reunited with his family, placed up for adoption, or transferred to one of our rescue partners, he needs to be fully vetted. This is also important for the safety of the other pets in his foster home.

💰 OUR GOAL: $150

We need your help to get Rocco the medical care he deserves. No matter what his future holds, he deserves to be safe, healthy, and cared for. He has his vet appointment tomorrow. 🩺

💚 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 💚

Sometimes, the ones who need rescuing end up helping us heal, too 🐶🐱🐰

Rescue animals know what it means to be scared, abandoned, overlooked, and alone. Many have endured things they never deserved. Yet, with patience, safety, and love, they learn to trust again.

And somewhere along the way, something beautiful happens:
• A dog gives someone a reason to get out of bed.
• A cat offers comfort on a lonely night.
• A rescue becomes a source of routine, companionship, and unconditional love.
• An animal who was once unwanted becomes someone’s entire world.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, remember that compassion matters. Check on your friends. Give yourself grace. And consider opening your heart to an animal waiting for a second chance. 🫶

❤️ CONWAY UPDATE ❤️

Remember the little dog we told you about who was roaming an RV park, crying nonstop in 100+ degree heat?

He is now fully vetted and has been in a foster home for a week. And this little boy is absolutely the sweetest dog. When you pet him, he melts into your hands. He will literally fall into you for affection 🥹

But Conway is still scared.

If you walk toward him, sometimes he cowers or runs. When he is outside, getting him back inside can be difficult because he is afraid. His foster has learned to simply open the door, give him space, and let him run inside rather than trying to grab him.

We don’t know what happened to Conway before he was found, but it’s painfully obvious that someone did not treat him kindly 💔

Sometimes, when you’re petting him and he looks up at you, you can almost see the thankfulness in his eyes because he’s realizing that hands can be used for love and comfort, not fear and pain.

And despite everything, Conway is still such a happy little guy.

• He LOVES toys.
🩴 He especially loves chanclas 😂
• He entertains himself and occasionally gets the cutest random zoomies.
• He has been non-destructive in his foster home.
• He’s never gotten into anything he shouldn’t.
• He’s almost completely potty trained, with only a few overnight accidents.
• His foster will continue working on crate training.
• Leash training is a work in progress.. he becomes very afraid when the leash is attached and won’t budge.

🏡 Conway doesn’t need a perfect home. He needs a patient one.

His perfect person will understand that trust takes time and won’t expect him to magically become a confident, perfectly trained dog overnight because he is still learning what it means to feel safe.

However, his heart is so much bigger than his little body. ❤️

After two months in a foster home, our little Bitsy is finally one step closer to finding her FURever home 🥳

Bitsy was found as a tiny little thing, weighing less than 5lbs, all alone at a construction site. Had she not been taken in, she likely would have died out there.. with no food or water 💔 we are thankful to her foster family for taking care of her and loving her these past 2 months.

Bitsy will be heading to our rescue partner, Love of Littles, this Friday.. but needs her Health Certificate to travel. We are in need of $60 for her HC and last booster.

Transports usually slow down in the summer plus the new world screwworm and increased rabies cases has made it harder for Texas rescue organizations to send dogs out. We are so very grateful to our Rescue Partners who trust us and continue to work with us to help get homeless RGV pets into their forever homes.

September 11, 2001 changed our country forever. It changed how we traveled, how we viewed safety, and how we saw the world.

But among the heartbreak were heroes who didn’t ask why. They simply went to work.

Search-and-rescue dogs, service dogs, and therapy dogs searched through unimaginable devastation, helped find survivors and remains, guided people through the chaos, and comforted those who were grieving.

But the dogs were affected, too.

Many search dogs were trained to find living people. When days passed without finding survivors, handlers and rescue workers sometimes hid in the rubble or staged “finds” so the dogs could experience the reward of a successful search. Their handlers understood that constantly searching without finding anyone alive was taking an emotional toll on these incredible animals.

They didn’t know they were heroes. They only knew they were there to help.

25 years later, we remember the lives lost, the families changed forever, the first responders who answered the call.. and the four-legged heroes who stood beside them.

Never forget 🇺🇸🐾
