One of THE MOST asked questions from dog owners! It is so important to know what to do and how to act if your dog eats grapes! 🍇

It’s been known how toxic grapes are for dogs. But the question is: why? Grapes contain tartaric acid. Humans have a transporter that acts like an “exit door” in their kidneys; moving the tartaric acid out of the kidney cells and into the urine. However, dogs do not have this transporter, meaning the tartaric acid builds up and gets stuck in the cells, causing damage and possibly leading to kidney failure.

It’s not just grapes to watch out for, but anything containing tartaric acid such as raisins, currants, sultanas, grape juice, trail mix, oatmeal raisin cookies, and cream of Tartar.

If your dog ingests ANY amount of grapes or anything of the tartaric acid nature, call your local vet immediately and Pet Poison Helpline at (855)764-7661

What is the difference between a Laparoscopic Spay and a Conventional Spay? We are proud to be one of the few animal hospitals in Orange County that offer Laparoscopic Spays for your pets. 🐶🩺
