💙🐾 International Charity Day: Every Act of Kindness Makes a Difference 🐾💙

On International Charity Day, we're reminded that even small acts of generosity can have a big impact—especially for animals in need.

Here are a few ways you can help pets in your community:

🐶 Donate food, treats, toys, blankets, or cleaning supplies to your local animal shelter or rescue.

🐱 Consider fostering or adopting a pet in need of a loving home.

❤️ Volunteer your time to support local rescue organizations and shelters.

🥫 Keep an extra bag of pet food on hand to donate to pet food pantries that help families care for their pets.

📢 Share adoptable pets and fundraising events on social media to help them reach more people.

💉 Keep your own pets healthy with regular wellness exams, vaccinations, and parasite prevention—healthy pets help create healthier communities.

Every act of kindness, no matter how small, helps give animals a brighter future. Together, we can make a difference, one paw at a time. 🐾

🐾💙 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 💙🐾

Our pets can't tell us when they're hurting—but they often show us in subtle ways.

Throughout the month of September, our clinic will be sharing educational posts about recognizing pain in pets, common causes of discomfort, treatment options, and ways you can help keep your furry family members comfortable and thriving. We invite you to follow along and learn with us!

Pain doesn't have to be a normal part of aging, and many conditions can be managed to help your pet live a happier, more comfortable life.

Keep an eye out for signs such as:

🐶 Slowing down on walks or reluctance to play

🦴 Difficulty climbing stairs or jumping

😴 Sleeping more than usual

🍽️ Changes in appetite

😟 Limping, stiffness, or difficulty getting up

🐱 Hiding, irritability, or changes in grooming habits

If you've noticed any of these changes, don't assume they're "just getting older." They could be signs that your pet is experiencing pain.

Our team is here to help assess your pet's comfort and develop a plan to keep them feeling their best.

📞 Contact us to schedule an exam if you're concerned about your pet's mobility or comfort! 574-256-1871

Be sure to check back each week in September as we explore different aspects of pain awareness and how early recognition can improve your pet's quality of life. Together, we can help pets live healthier, happier, and more comfortable lives. ❤️🐾

🐾 Parasite Prevention FAQ 🐾

Keeping your pet protected from parasites is one of the easiest ways to support their long-term health. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often!

❓Do indoor pets really need parasite prevention?

Yes! Fleas, mosquitoes, and other parasites can still find their way indoors. Indoor pets are not completely protected from parasite exposure.

❓How often should my pet receive parasite prevention?

Most pets benefit from year-round prevention. Staying on a consistent schedule provides the best protection against fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites.

❓If I don't see fleas or ticks, can I skip a dose?

No. Many parasites can be present before you ever notice them. Preventing an infestation is much easier than treating one.

❓Why is heartworm prevention so important?

Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes and can cause serious damage to the heart and lungs. Prevention is safe, effective, and much less costly than treatment.

❓Can my pet get parasites from other animals?

Yes. Pets can pick up parasites from other animals, contaminated environments, wildlife, or even shared outdoor spaces.

❓How do I know which parasite prevention is right for my pet?

Every pet is different! Age, lifestyle, and health all play a role in choosing the best prevention. Our team is happy to help you find the right option.

🩺 Annual Wellness Exams & Prevention 🩺

Your pet may seem perfectly healthy—but many health conditions develop quietly, with little to no obvious signs. That's why annual wellness exams are one of the most important things you can do to keep them happy and healthy.

During a wellness visit, we:

🐾 Perform a nose-to-tail physical exam.

🐾 Monitor weight and body condition.

🐾 Check eyes, ears, teeth, skin, heart, and lungs.

🐾 Discuss nutrition, behavior, and lifestyle.

🐾 Review parasite prevention and vaccination needs.

🐾 Recommend screening tests when appropriate to help detect illness before symptoms appear.

Early detection can make a big difference. Identifying health concerns in their early stages often means more treatment options, better outcomes, and a healthier life for your pet.

Whether your companion is a playful puppy or kitten, an active adult, or enjoying their senior years, routine wellness care is the foundation of lifelong health.

📞 Is your pet due for their annual exam? Give us a call to schedule an appointment—we'd love to help keep them feeling their best!

Fleas & Ticks: What We're Seeing This Season

📸 Check out our tick jar! Every tick in this jar was removed from just a few of our patients this season—and it's a reminder that flea and tick prevention is more important than ever.

This year, we've been seeing:

🐾 More tick encounters than usual—even in pets that mostly stay in their own backyards.

🐾 Fleas continuing to thrive in the warm, humid weather.

🐾 Increased exposure after walks through neighborhoods, parks, wooded trails, and around the St. Joseph River.

Here in Mishawaka and throughout northern Indiana, tick activity has been especially high this season. State health experts are reminding pet owners that ticks are active in backyards, parks, and wooded areas, and blacklegged (deer) ticks, American dog ticks, and lone star ticks are all found in Indiana.

The good news? Prevention works! Keeping your pet on a veterinarian-recommended flea and tick preventive year-round is the best way to protect them from parasites and the diseases they can carry.

📞 Not sure if your pet is on the right prevention? Give us a call—we're happy to help you choose the best option for your furry family member! 574-256-1871

🐕 How Parasites Impact Your Pet's Overall Health

Parasites are more than just an inconvenience—they can have a significant impact on your pet's health and well-being.

🦠 Parasites can:
🐾 Steal essential nutrients, leading to weight loss and poor growth.
💩 Cause vomiting, diarrhea, and digestive upset.
🩸 Lead to anemia and weakness, especially in puppies and kittens.
🛡️ Weaken the immune system, making pets more susceptible to illness.
⚠️ Some parasites can even be passed from pets to people, making prevention important for the whole family.

The good news? Routine wellness exams, f***l testing, and year-round parasite prevention can help keep your pet healthy and protected.

If you have questions about the best parasite prevention for your dog or cat, our team is here to help. Give us a call or a text today!
