🍂 **New Fall Hours at HSSJC!** 🍂

As we head into fall, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County is updating our public hours to help our team better serve our animals and community.

**Please note: We will be CLOSED on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.** Our new Fall Hours will officially begin **Tuesday, September 8.**

🏢 **Office Lobby / Animal Control**
Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
*Lobby closed 12:00–1:00 PM*
Saturday: 1:00–5:00 PM
Sunday: Closed

🐾 **Adoption Center**
Monday–Saturday: 2:00–4:30 PM for walk-in browsing

❤️ **Already approved to adopt?**
Adoption appointments are available Monday–Saturday from 9:00 AM–4:30 PM.

While our lobby will be closed on Saturday mornings, our team will still be hard at work behind the scenes! Scheduled appointments for adoptions, owner reclaims, and emergency surrender/intake needs may still be accommodated during those hours.

🚨 **Animal Control emergency response will continue to be available when our lobby is closed, including on Labor Day.**

These updated hours will allow us to concentrate our staffing during the times our lobby is open while giving our team dedicated time for animal care, administrative responsibilities, and all the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our shelter running.

🐾 Foster Friday: Peggy Sue 🐾

Sometimes, all a scared dog needs is a little time, patience, and a safe place to let her true personality shine.

Peggy Sue is a 2-year-old sweetheart who came to us as a stray in May. The shelter environment was overwhelming for this sweet girl, and she was very frightened when she first arrived. But once she got into a foster home, Peggy Sue began to blossom… and what a difference it has made!

Her foster says Peggy Sue is potty trained, crate trained, and does great with her doggy foster siblings. She has even done well meeting kids! She can be a little jumpy and energetic, so she may be better suited for a home without very small children. But this spunky girl has SO much love to give.

🐾 We’re excited to be part of Dog Days of Summer! ☀️🐶

Join us this Friday, September 4, from 5–9 PM in Downtown South Bend for September’s First Fridays: Dog Days of Summer, presented by Holladay Properties!

We’ll be hitting the gridiron off Washington Street with our Humane Society crew, and we can’t wait to spend the evening celebrating all things dogs! Stop by our booth to say hello, learn more about the animals looking for their forever homes, and find out how you can support the shelter.

There will be vendors, food, entertainment, and plenty of dog-friendly fun throughout the evening. Bring your pups and come enjoy a great night downtown while supporting local organizations!

🐾 Thankful Thursday! 🐾

Today we’re giving a BIG shout-out to the Girl Scouts of Troop 56008 from Elkhart! 💚

These awesome girls took on a paws-itively great service project: creating some fantastic cat scratchers for our shelter cats! Not only will these scratchers give our feline friends something fun to do, they’ll also provide some much-needed mental stimulation while they wait for their forever homes. 🐱

The troop recently stopped by to drop off their finished creations, and of course, they brought plenty of fun and enthusiasm with them! They toured our adoption center, tackled a scavenger hunt, and helped brighten the day for both our cats and our staff.

And now comes the best part: putting those scratchers to work! Our adoption cattery cats have been busy checking out their new creations, and it looks like the scratchers are already getting some serious approval!

Thank you, Troop 56008, for putting your creativity, time, and big hearts to work for shelter pets! We’re so grateful for young community members like you who are making a difference, one scratcher at a time. 💕🐾

🐾 Happy Tail Tuesday! 🐾

There’s nothing better than sharing another happy adoption story... especially when a dog has found not just a home, but the family he was meant to be a part of.

Meet Mojo, formerly known as Weasel while at the shelter. This handsome 1½-year-old boy arrived as a stray in early July. He is a sweet, friendly guy who seemed to make friends wherever he went. And it didn’t take long for him to win some hearts during his time with us.

But the hearts he ultimately won for good belong to Dazha and her family!

Mojo has already settled in beautifully, and his new family says he’s fitting right in as their newest family member. Dazha shared this heartwarming update:

“The moment we met Mojo we fell in love! He was so sweet with the perk of being potty trained, leash trained, and well behaved. He loves treats, he's so gentle with the kids and is like a bonus baby to our little family! I found a friend who's eyes make me melt.”

Just look at that happy face! It sounds like Mojo has found exactly what every shelter dog dreams of, a family to love, kids to adore, and a place where he truly belongs.

We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy and his new family! Another great dog has found his people, and another tail is wagging all the way home. Happy life, Mojo! ❤️🐶

🐾 Charlie’s Cat Corner! 🐾

We’re shining the spotlight on our resident “Cat Boss” volunteer, Charlie! 😺 Charlie stopped by this week and headed straight to our Bouncing Bobcat room, where some of our younger kittens make their short-term stay while they wait for their next chapter.

And boy, did he bring the fun!

Charlie got in some serious wand-toy action with two of our energetic youngsters: 6-month-old orange tabby Chumdinger and 3-month-old gray-and-white cutie Max.

There were pounces. There were zoomies. There were very serious attempts to catch that elusive wand toy.

Honestly, we’re still trying to figure out who had more fun: the kittens or Charlie! 😂
