🐾🩺 FREE VET DR. ADVICE DAY! 🩺🐾

⚠️ PET SAFETY TIP: BEWARE OF XYLITOL! ⚠️

Did you know that xylitol, an artificial sweetener also known as birch sugar, is highly toxic to dogs? 🐶

Xylitol can be found in many everyday products, including:

🍬 Sugar-free candy

🍃 Chewing gum

🌬️ Breath mints

💊 Some over-the-counter medications

🪥 Certain oral care products

Even a small amount of xylitol can cause a dangerous drop in blood sugar and potentially life-threatening liver damage in dogs.

🐾 Help keep your furry family members safe! Always check product labels and keep anything containing xylitol well out of your pets’ reach.

🚨 IMPORTANT: If you suspect your dog has ingested xylitol, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to appear, and do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a veterinary professional.

❤️ From all of us at Mint Hill Animal Hospital, your pets’ health and safety are always our priority!

🐾 Attention, Pet Parents! It’s Pet Education Day! 🐾

📚 Today’s Lesson: Learning to Recognize Subtle Signs of Stress in Your Pets!

🐶 DOGS: A Wagging Tail Doesn’t Always Mean a Happy Pup!

Our canine companions communicate in ways we may not always recognize. Keep an eye out for subtle signs of stress, including:

🐾 Sudden or frequent yawning
🐾 Excessive lip licking
🐾 Showing the whites of their eyes (“whale eye”)
🐾 Trembling or shaking

🐱 CATS: Purring Doesn’t Always Mean Contentment!

Did you know that cats may also purr to comfort themselves when they’re stressed, uncomfortable, or even in pain? Watch for these warning signs:

🐾 Low, twitching or rapidly flicking tails
🐾 Flattened ears
🐾 Heavy or open-mouth panting
🐾 Hiding or withdrawing from interaction

❤️ Why Does This Matter?

Recognizing these subtle signals can help prevent fear, anxiety, and even defensive behaviors. Understanding your pet’s body language allows you to respond to their needs and help them feel safe and comfortable.

🚨 Pet Parent Tip: Always consider the situation and your pet’s overall body language. If your pet suddenly begins displaying unusual behaviors, contact your veterinary team. Open-mouth breathing or panting in cats can be an emergency and warrants immediate veterinary attention.

🐾 At Mint Hill Animal Hospital, we’re here to help you understand your pets, not just care for them!
