The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on building the bond between humans and animals. Since then, we have rescued over 35,000+ dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal well-being organization! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services. We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

How amazing is that?! We are incredibly grateful to be part of this… a community where we come together for animal welfare. A community where we keep people and pets together.

Mama Marmalade has been with us for nearly an entire year... 335 days. November 20th will mark one whole year in rescue. One whole year of waiting.

Marmalade came up from Georgia last year with her four babies. As soon as they were ready to find their homes, they did... quickly. But Marmalade? She's still waiting for someone to choose her.

And we'll be honest, Marmalade is special. She needs a specific type of home, which has been making it a little harder for her to find her place. But we know her humans are out there somewhere... we just need to find them.

So... what exactly is Marmalade looking for in her ideal home?

🐾 Men? Absolutely NOT. Sorry not sorry, Marmalade says no. She is a girls girl through and through 💅 (Preferably adults... she's had enough of the kiddos)

🐾 Other pets? Again, no thanks. She raised four babies and is sick of sharing everything. She wants everything all to herself... including her future mom (or moms 🌈)

🐾 Cuddles? Absolutely REQUIRED. In fact, Marmalade is a professional level cuddler. She takes bedtime very seriously... your guests will know when they've over extended their stay 😂

We know a home without men or other pets is a more specific ask. We know that it's harder to find. But we also know that the right home for Marmalade is worth waiting for... because she's worth it.

She has a gentle soul. She's always down for a car ride or walk, she LOVES a girl gang, and she's probably the most loyal friend you'll ever have.

Her beginning years of life were hard. She had puppies before the age of two. Moved across the country in the hopes of finding a home. Received a heartworm positive diagnosis... but she's officially cleared!!! And now, nearly a year of waiting.

She deserves her next chapter to truly begin. Help us find her woman OR girl gang... we know they're out there somewhere 🩷

It's day three of Vet Tech Appreciation Week and today we're highlighting Madison 🩷

Madison is the kind of person you can just talk to. The kind of person who makes you feel so comfortable that all of a sudden you find yourself thinking, "wow... I've never shared that with anyone before." She's that kind of human.

She radiates compassion. She listens without judgment. And she has a way of making people feel like they don't have to carry the hard things alone.

There are certain aspects of being a Vet Tech that get overshadowed. One of those is assisting in end of life care. This is Madison's gift.

She's able to sit with people in their grief. To be there for them in some of their hardest moments. To offer comfort when there aren't words that can make things better. And recently, she showed that same compassion in a different setting... at a community pet clinic.

A family felt safe enough to open up to her... to be vulnerable. They shared that they were currently sleeping in their car and that they knew they wouldn't be able to properly care for their dog in the upcoming cold, winter months.

Madison didn't pass judgment. Instead she saw the love there. She saw that even in the middle of their own uncertainty, they brought their dog to the clinic to receive care while they figured out what came next... because their dog was the priority. Make sure he's healthy and taken care of.

She helped the family brainstorm ways they could stay connected to animals in the future, even if their own dog needed to be rehomed. She even went a step further to make plans to keep them safe during the winter as well. She had no obligation to, but she chose to... because that's just the kind of human she is 🥺

Thank you, Madison. Thank you for being a positive light in a world where negativity is abundant. Thank you for saying yes with us 💛

4 hours. 97 animals impacted. That is what community-focused care looks like 💛

Over the weekend, we hosted one of our monthly low cost community pet clinics at our Minneapolis location. When you take the number of animals impacted combined with their owners and the ripple effect that they all have… that’s hundreds of lives changed in just four hours.

90 wellness exams. 168 vaccines administered. 23 microchips implanted. 16 nail trims. 50 spay/neuter vouchers provided. Oh, and many cans of easy cheese
consumed 😜

That's a lot of numbers... but it's about so much more than the numbers. It's about lowering the barrier to veterinary care and pet ownership in general. Sometimes, the cost of caring for a pet can put families in a position where impossible decisions need to be made... like surrendering a pet they love.

The goal of these clinics is simple: Keep families together. And the ripple effect of that goal? Keeping more animals out of the shelter/rescue system.

Because when our communities have the support they need to care for their pets, everyone benefits. More healthy animals. More families staying together. More bonds that connect us all.

Today's Vet Tech Appreciation post is dedicated to Abby 🥰

Oftentimes, you'll hear people talk about a mentor or someone in their life that guided them in their career path... who helped them become who they are today. From the beginning, Abby has always loved and cared for animals so her guidance to this career path was pretty simple.

But the one who shaped her into the Vet Tech she is today? Well, that wasn't a human... it was Willow, her first rescue dog 🥹

Sometimes, animals are our best teachers and Willow took that role seriously.

Willow taught Abby the importance of a chance. She showed her that humans and animals alike are worthy of a second chance. A chance to feel safe. A chance to try again. A chance to heal. A chance to experience unconditional love.

Earlier this year, Willow crossed the rainbow bridge... where she watches over Abby every day 🌈 And we know Willow is filled with pride as she watches Abby... because we are!

Willow is no longer with us, but her impact is. Her legacy lives on through Abby and the lives she touches every single day... whether that's bringing newborns into the world during an emergency C-section, helping an animal on their journey to recovery or caring for patients during their routine wellness exams.

Thank you, Abby. Thank you for helping these animals get their second chance. Thank you for being part of our team 💛

Today is the day their next chapter begins. The chapter of finding their family. For some, it might take only days. For others, it might be weeks or months until their humans find them.

We don't know how long their journey is, but we do know that they'll be loved and cared for every step of the way 🥰

We have two numbers we want to share with you. The first is 166. The second is 0.

One hundred and sixty six represents how long Lettuce has been searching for his home. Zero represents how many applications he's had.

166 days. 0 applications.

Not one person has looked at his picture or read his profile and wanted to meet him 😭 We don't get it, so we want to share more about the cat behind the profile... we want you to see the true Lettuce.

His foster describes him using these words: Sweet. Playful. Friendly. Active. Ready for fun. Affectionate. Purrfect 😉

Okay, we added in that last one, but we know that Lettuce will be purrfect for someone 🥰

Sure, his profile might say he is timid/shy. But that's only in the beginning. Once Lettuce feels safe around you? You're locked in. You've got a new best friend. He will follow you from room to room simply because you're his human and he wants to be by you 🥹

Sure, his profile might say that he prefers to not be picked up/carried. But that's just for long periods of time! Lettuce LOVES when you sit beside him on the floor (or the couch)... he purrs basically the entire time. But guess what?! You can pick him up and he'll still purr! Just don't expect him to chill in your sweatshirt all day. He is busy and has stuff to do... like chase toys and watch the squirrels out the windows.

Lettuce just needs someone who is willing to look a layer deeper. Someone that will take the time to get to know him. Someone that will give him patience until he feels safe... because once that happens? He's never leaving your side.

What is a Vet Tech? To us, they are the heroes behind closed doors. And this week is all about celebrating them because it's National Veterinary Technician Week 🤩🥰

We want to kick off the week by introducing you to Maggie 🐾

Maggie's story shows us how full-circle life can be. How it can make sure you end up exactly where you were meant to be.

Growing up, Maggie was the go-to person in her family for all the animals. She was the person to give an extra cuddle or a little extra love. But as she grew up, she found another passion... people.

She was just about to graduate with a degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling, when a lightbulb went off 💡 She realized she wanted to do something that would help animals and support people.

Fast forward to today, that is exactly what Maggie does.

Being a Vet Technician at our Vet Center isn't just about the patient in the room or on the exam table. It's about the ripple effect. It's about the resources it creates that make it possible to care for the next animal and support another family.

The profit from the Vet Center goes right back into our mission... keeping people and pets together. Which means that Maggie goes to work knowing that she caring for an animal, but she's also impacting lives she may never meet. Lives that are impacted by that same ripple.

The full-circle moment of Maggie's story? Our Respite Foster Care Program.

A program dedicated to giving pets a safe haven while their owner gets the help they need. And sometimes, that help comes in the form of chemical dependency treatment... Maggie's other passion.

Her day to day work might look like assisting in an urgent C-section, reading animal body language, and a million other things... but it's always so much more than that.

This is Steve... or as we like to call him, Strong Steve 💪

At just 4.5 months old, Steve has already beaten the odds. He survived Parvovirus, a virus that can be devastating for puppies. But Steve? He made it. He fought through it. He got his second chance.

Steve received a treatment called Monoclonal Antibody treatments. This is a relatively new breakthrough for Parvo that our Vet Team has been using for parvo cases lately.

One of our long time parvo foster homes (who has helped us save countless lives over the years) shared that this new treatment has been a total "game changer" for the parvo puppies in her care.

And Strong Steve is just one more reason to believe in it because as of September 22nd, he is officially Parvo negative 🥳

Since then, he's spent some time slowly gaining more appetite, getting his energy back, and growing out his coat. Last week, he was neutered and has officially been cleared by our vet team for adoption!

So, here's what you need to know about Steve:

Remember, he is only 4 months old. So he still does have lots of that puppy energy. He does has a mischievous streak, but he also can curl up and snuggle with the best of them 🥹

You can call him Steve, Steve-O, Stevie, or Steven (although, that is only for the rare occasion when he's being a little naughty 😉)

And bonus points? He has won over his 12 year old foster sibling... who has been described as cranky. So he can basically win over anyone 😜

A few weeks ago, we weren't sure if he'd have a future. But today? Today he is looking for his family. A family to love him and show him what he fought for... life and love ❤

We recently received this review about our Respite Program. This isn't a "toot our horn" moment. This is a reminder. A reminder that sometimes, you just need a little help... a little bit of time to figure things out.

That's completely normal and it can happen to anyone. We believe that shouldn't cause you to lose one of things you love most in life... your family.

Because of Respite Foster Care Sonny doesn't have to lose his dad... the only person he's ever known.

Right now, his dad is getting the help he needs without having to worry about what is going to happen to Sonny. He knows. He knows that when he's ready Sonny will come back to him.

Sonny's respite care started at the beginning of the month and he is expected to return to his human at the start of 2027. Temporarily being a part isn't easy, but every day that passes is a day closer to their reunion 🥹

Because sometimes, all you need is a little bridge for when the water gets rough... and we're so grateful that we get to be that bridge for families in need 🤍
