PLANT-GROW-SHARE A Central Neighborhood project bridging support structures for access to food and farming education. Families are also paired with a mentor.

Plant-Grow-Share works to create opportunities for the Central Neighborhood in Minneapolis to grow food, community, and personal empowerment. PLANT - Families that participate in the project are provided with the materials needed to grow their own organic raised-bed gardens. The relationship that grows between mentors and mentees provides support throughout the gardening season. GROW - Through a series of workshops and gardening classes, participants gain confidence and gardening knowledge while getting to know fellow community members. Relationships, food, and skills are grown throughout the program. SHARE - As the summer progresses and the vegetables have ripened, families can contribute produce to the Little Free Farmers Market. This pop-up food cart will be biked around by volunteers every Saturday morning to share the harvest of this project with the community.

Homegrown Minneapolis is under threat, and they need our help to protect this important program!

Homegrown Minneapolis supports 87 different growing spaces and food justice organizations across Minneapolis. Over the years, Homegrown Minneapolis has provided critical support and collaboration to assist farmers markets in Minneapolis thrive, including Midtown. They uplift and advocate for local food access in our community.

Recently, Homegrown Minneapolis led the successful application for a large grant that pays farmers for their excess produce from 2027-2028. This produce will be sent to community kitchens and food shelves in the area, supporting both our local farmers and our community's need for affordable foodways.

Cutting Homegrown Minneapolis from the budget would eliminate administrative oversight from this grant for future market seasons, resulting in wasted produce that could be used to feed the community.

Will you join us in fighting to save gardening and farming programs within the City of Minneapolis?

Attend the public hearing at City Hall on the city’s budget on Monday, October 19th at 6pm to show your support and/or give comment.

If you can't make it in person, please submit a comment online to share about how the gardens and health of Minneapolis residents must be protected. Community gardens and farmers markets are a vital part of our health ecosystem, and now is not the time to divest in our future. Dear Minneapolis - we need your help. Our health is our wealth - and mayor Frey is trying to defund it.

The Minneapolis Health department through its Homegrown Initiative supports 87 different growing spaces and food justice organizations across Minneapolis and has strongly supported Plant-Grow-Share's beginning gardener program, helped us staff volunteer nights, given us access to purchasing climate-friendly tools and helped us update our Beginning Gardener Curriculum. Now, this essential, innovative program of the Minneapolis Health Department is at risk.

Hi neighbor! You are cordially invited to our upcoming events! On Saturday, October 3rd we start the day with 38th Street Market - a project we're proud to collaborate on alongside the 38th + Chi Business coalition. This market features local farmers who work with us an array of family friendly activities and vendors. After the market, we'll set community tables down Chicago Avenue at George Floyd Square and serve a free meal with locally grown food to several hundred neighbors out of ceramic bowls and hand-forged spoons that community members made themselves over the summer. There's something for everyone! Are you coming?
