Sierra, Dirty Dog and Cat grooming’s full time stylist, did a great job making Mia look ready for the 4th of July. 🇺🇸
Mia has a few friendly festive reminders for all pet owners while we celebrate the upcoming Independence Day holiday. 🇺🇸
Fireworks, picnics and other Fourth of July traditions can be great fun for people, but all of the festivities can be frightening and even dangerous for animals.
Noisy fireworks and other celebrations can startle animals and cause them to run away; holiday foods can be unhealthy; summer heat and travel can be dangerous; and potentially dangerous debris can end up lying on the ground where pets can eat or play with it.
The best ways to take precautions to keep your pets safe are:
1. Make sure all pets have up to date identification tags.
2. Talk with your veterinarian about microchipping. This simple procedure can greatly improve your chances of getting your pets back if they are frightened and run away.
3. If your pet is microchipped, make sure the registry is up to date with your current phone number and address.
4. Take a current photo, just in case.
5. If your pet has historically been anxious on this holiday, talk to your veterinarian about options to ease this behavior.
6. Make sure the environment is safe and secure. Is your yard secure to keep your pet contained? Are there safe places to hide in your home?
After the celebrations, be sure to thoroughly check your yard for firework debris and your home for unsafe food scraps or utensils such as food skewers.
Please feel free to contact Pet Central Animal Hospital if you have any questions or concerns about how to keep your pet safe during this time of year.
