Scar had his surgery on Tuesday to correct the entropion in both eyes, and he is doing AMAZING!

For those who missed his story, Scar is a formerly feral colony cat who came to us with severely swollen, infected eyes. We learned that he had bilateral entropion, a painful condition where the eyelids roll inward, causing the fur to constantly rub against the eyes.

He’s recovering beautifully! When we’re out working in the garage, he gets some supervised time to explore, and he absolutely loves it. He’s been rolling around, being goofy, and showing us more of his sweet personality. 🥹 It’s pretty incredible to see how far this formerly feral boy has come!

Last week, we trapped 10 cats and brought them to Purple Cat for spay and neuter. Almost all of them have turned out to be friendly, so we’re currently working on securing rescue placement for them rather than returning them outdoors.

We’re currently caring for 15 cats, so things have been pretty nonstop around here!

On Saturday, we also took in a ~10-week-old kitten named Victoria with a severely degloved tail. We were able to start meds to stabilize her and get her the care she needed. Yesterday, she was transferred to Pet Haven, where her necrotic tail was surgically removed. We’re very grateful that Pet Haven was able to take her in and provide the surgery and continued care she needed. ❤️

It’s been a busy stretch, but seeing cats like Scar feeling better, coming out of their shells, and getting a chance at a different life makes it worth it.

Pete came to us from our actual neighborhood last night. He had stayed throughout winter in heated shelters but I hadn't seen him lately. A neighbor a block away befriended him and was able to secure him. He's been through it and has multiple infected wounds he's now receiving treatment for 🥺

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared posts, or helped support these cats!

Any help with supplies would be super helpful ❤️😅

🌙 Moonlight Update 🐈‍⬛❤️

⚠️ Graphic photo warning: I will add photos that show Moonlight’s healing skin and the severity of her wounds at her initial veterinary visit on September 9th, compared with today, October 14th in the comments.⚠️

Our sweet 19-year-old Moonlight has been through a lot lately, but she’s making some wonderful progress!

Some of you might remember Moonlight from last month when I asked for help covering her vet care. She had extensive areas of raw, inflamed, and damaged skin, which I suspect is the result of severe flea allergy dermatitis.

She was transferred into my care this past weekend after a family member was no longer able to keep her due to a move. Unfortunately, I found a significant amount of flea dirt on her, which has raised concerns about the environment she had been living in and the possibility of her returning there.

She’s been to the vet several times since her skin issues began and has been healing really well! She’s also been receiving laser therapy, which seems to be making a big difference in her recovery.

Unfortunately, Moonlight also got into a scuffle with another cat prior to coming into my care, leaving her with a deep wound that became infected. She was seen by the vet again today to address that, so we still have some healing ahead of us.

Despite all this, this little old lady has been such a trooper! She’s sporting her cone like an absolute champ and tolerating all her treatments incredibly well. She did swipe me once when my guard was down but I prolly had it coming 😹

A huge thank you to everyone who donated toward Moonlight’s veterinary care last month! That helped get her the initial care she desperately needed, and I’m so grateful for everyone who stepped up for her.

With multiple visits, continued wound care, and laser treatments, she does have a balance at the clinic. Her treatment is still ongoing, and any additional contributions toward her care would be greatly appreciated.

At 19 years old, every day matters, and she deserves to spend her remaining years feeling safe, comfortable, and loved. I’m so happy to see how far she’s come. She is so sweet.

Scar needs surgery ASAP on both eyes 🥺

I’ve been working on a colony in Phillips neighborhood in Mpls where about six new cats have recently shown up. While trapping for TNR appointments, I also caught a familiar face — Scar.

Scar was one of the cats previously trapped, neutered, and returned to the colony. He basically hasn't left the property for the last 3–4 months, and his caretaker gave him his name.

When I saw him a few days ago, I knew something wasn’t right. Both of his eyes were very swollen and filled with thick green discharge. I thought there was something more going on than a common feline herpes flare-up, so I brought him inside and took him to the clinic to be seen.

Unfortunately, Scar has entropion in BOTH eyes and needs surgery to fix his eyelids to help him see.

Entropion is a condition where the eyelids roll inward, causing his fur and eyelashes to constantly rub against the surface of the eyes. I can't imagine having something scratching my eyes each time I blink. It’s very painful and eventually causes permanent corneal damage.

Scar’s caretaker believes he was born outdoors, and he was incredibly feral when he first showed up and was originally trapped for his neuter. But over the last year or so, he’s transformed into the sweetest guy, and is very affectionate and chatty. He deserves to live without constant pain.

I'm hoping to raise approximately $500 to cover his surgery and follow up care. Thankfully, the condition is correctable, and repairing his eyelids should give him a lot of immediate relief.

I want to send him on to his new life indoors in better shape because he's hardly able to open his eyes right now.

Even if you can’t donate, sharing his story helps a lot. The photos aren't the best because he's a very busy boy lol.

Two more happy endings 🩶

Gracie and Joyce were both adopted in the last few days — both by the people who originally found them.

Both girls are now spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, and negative for FIV, FeLV, and heartworm.

No more struggling outside. No more wondering where their next meal is coming from. They’re safe, loved, and officially home.

Welcome home, Gracie and Joyce.

Tim update 🩶 Sorry for the delay.

When Animal Control found Tim, he was down, unable to walk, covered in maggots, severely dehydrated and septic. For a while, I really didn’t know what his future was going to look like or if he would have one.

About eight days into his illness, I finally found what had likely caused the sepsis: a tiny scab on his neck. Once I shaved the area, I found a pus-filled abscess from what looked like a bite wound, tunneling down his neck. He had probably been sick for quite a while before anyone found him. He needed IV fluids for 5 days 🥺

And now… look at him.

He is still a little wobbly on his feet. The vet isn’t sure whether that’s lingering weakness from how incredibly sick he was, or if he may have been born a little wobbly, possibly with cerebellar hypoplasia. Either way, he seems to still be getting stronger in his back end, and I think a lot of his weakness was from being so sick for so long.

For over a week, he couldn’t even sit up on his own. It took him about three weeks to gain enough strength to use a litter box, and switching him to a low-sided XL box helped.

He has also gained a few pounds. Possibly a few too many 😂 because this man acts like he has never seen food in his entire life and may never see it again.

Personality-wise, he has become a little Velcro cat. He follows me everywhere, lets me hold him like a baby, and is just ridiculously sweet. He’s a little socially awkward and doesn’t really know how to play like a normal cat yet, but my cats have been teaching him 😹

He doesn’t mind dogs too much, and he’s formed the cutest little bond with Puddles. The two of them will jump into the 3-tier cat enclosure together and just sit by each other.

From being unable to stand or even sit up on his own to gaining weight, using the litter box, making friends, and following me around the house, Tim has come a long way. He’ll be ready for adoption soon, and I think somebody is going to be very lucky to get this weird little guy. 🩶

She successfully had her infected nasty uterus removed today and is home recovering ♥️ She is a little goofy from anesthesia still and is mad at me for trying to put a recovery onesie on her 😹 she will continue antibiotics for about a week, but it should be all uphill from here.

She does have a balance at Metropet where she was stabilized yesterday.

Thankful she survived because some don't 🥺

At only 2–3 years old, Grey Mama Kitty has already had many litters, including her most recent litter of three kittens about four months ago. Unfortunately, remaining unspayed through repeated heat cycles puts her at increased risk for pyometra — a potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus.

Around 11 PM Tuesday night, I found a bloody/mucousy blob in her enclosure. She’d also been eating poorly for about a day and a half. When I examined her, her abdomen felt firm and there was a small amount of tan discharge from her v***a. Her re**al temperature was still normal, but I was immediately worried about an open pyometra.

I texted my vet right away, and she agreed that pyo was very likely and told me to bring Mama in.

By Wednesday, things had changed pretty dramatically. What had been minimal discharge the night before was now pouring out of her, and palpating her abdomen during the exam caused even more purulent discharge to drain. At that point, there wasn’t much question that something was very wrong.

Mama was also absolutely TERRIFIED at the clinic and managed to bite both the vet and tech 😭. Once she was safely settled, she received fluids, nausea medication, gabapentin, and we started antibiotics. She clearly did not feel good, and her temperature hovered around 103°F for much of the day. She still had a fever around midnight.

I reached out to MNSNAP right away hoping they might be able to accommodate an emergency same-day spay, but unfortunately they couldn’t.

She is scheduled to be spayed tomorrow. With pyometra, the infected uterus needs to come out as soon as possible. Until then, I’ve stayed up all night watching her closely because these cats can tank quickly and become septic — meaning the infection can trigger a dangerous systemic response, causing blood pressure to drop and organs to start failing.

Thankfully, she’s actually been looking much better overnight. ❤️ She ate almost two full cans of food for dinner, seems brighter, and at her 4 AM check her temperature was 99.8°F. We’re definitely not out of the woods until that infected uterus is removed, but I’m very happy with how she’s doing right now.

Just a few more hours, Mama. Then that nasty uterus is coming OUT. She was actually still with with her three kittens when she came here, but apparently she had decided she was DONE with motherhood because she kept trying to beat them up whenever they annoyed her. 😹😭 Needless to say, they got their own accommodations.

Also — “Grey Mama Kitty” desperately needs a real name. 😂

A few happy updates ❤️

The three shyer grey tabby kittens I trapped in South Minneapolis are now at a friends home where they’ll get some extra one-on-one time and help building their confidence. They’ll let us hold them, but they’re still pretty uncomfortable with it. At foster they won't need to stay in an enclosure anymore, so they can start getting used to normal indoor life and being around people at their own pace. And judging by the first update from foster, they’re already figuring out that couches are pretty great. 😂❤️ Once they’re ready, they’ll be available for adoption! They do still need to be fixed and working on getting that scheduled.

And the little black kitten Bear went to his forever home last night!! 🖤 Judging by the update I got afterward, I think he’s settling in just fine 😂 He’s already passed out with his toys like he owns the place.

I also want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has sent supplies from the wishlist. I honestly can’t believe how much has come in. We should be set on litter for several months, which is an enormous help, and I know there are still more supplies on the way.

Having food, litter, cleaning supplies and all of the everyday things stocked up takes a huge expense off our plates and means more resources can go directly toward vetting and medical care. Thank you so, so much to everyone who donated, shared the wishlist, or sent something for the cats. ❤️

We could also really use some volunteers right now. We have a pretty big backlog of TNR projects and could use help trapping in the field, transporting cats to and from appointments, and occasionally holding cats before and after surgery (usually only about 2–3 nights total).

You absolutely don’t need to already know how to trap — completely happy to teach you! Even helping with one part of a TNR project makes a huge difference and could help us get through more of the colonies waiting for help.

I actually had to get a rental car temporarily because there were simply too many cats, appointments and rescue things that needed to get done without reliable transportation. I’m urgently searching for a van or SUV that can handle all the traps, carriers and supplies that come along with this work. My budget is not the highest unfortunately which makes finding something reliable difficult.

Thank you again to everyone who has helped in one way or another! ♥️

I had just finished a project at an Airbnb I manage and stopped at Wendy’s because I needed a Frosty at 2 a.m 😹

Instead, my van literally went up in flames at the drive-thru window.

The restaurant employees had to evacuate the building, and the entire experience was surreal. I’m safe, but I’m still shaken and honestly don’t even know where to begin. Being without transportation leaves me in an incredibly difficult position.

This van wasn’t just how I got around. It was how I transported cats to and from vet appointments, moved traps and kennels, hauled food and litter, and reached the colonies I help care for. Transportation is what makes nearly every part of this rescue possible.

I’m not starting a GoFundMe or making a formal fundraising request right now. I don’t even know exactly what I need yet. I’m still processing what happened and trying to figure out what comes next. But losing the rescue van is a massive blow, and I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to keep everything moving without a vehicle.

In the middle of all this, I do have one positive update: Moonlight was seen today and we now have a treatment plan in place for her. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make her appointment possible.

Right now, her prognosis is guarded to fair, but there are encouraging signs. Despite being 20 years old, she is at a healthy weight, has a good appetite, and is otherwise doing well. Full bloodwork was run, she was given Convenia, started on prednisolone, and is wearing an e-collar to prevent further trauma. The vet is considering severe allergies versus an autoimmune condition and wants to see how she responds to the steroids before pursuing additional diagnostics such as a biopsy. If she responds well and stops damaging the area, the wounds can heal, but it will take considerable time because of their size.

It won't let me add pictures and videos to same post, so I'll post pics of Moonlight in the comments ♥️

If anyone knows of a reliable, reasonably priced van or another vehicle with enough room for rescue transport, please let me know. Right now I’m overwhelmed and trying to figure out where to go from here.
