🫀 For many families like 11-year-old petite mini Goldendoodle, Basil, a subtle heart murmur is the first hint of Stage B2 mitral valve disease and progression towards congestive heart failure. At CVM, a new project led by cardiology resident Matthew Tanner provides a ray of hope and explores how a breath test can be used to optimize medication choices for patients with Stage B2 mitral valve disease.

Interested in participating? The study team is currently seeking both healthy dogs and dogs newly diagnosed with Stage B2 mitral valve disease. Enrolled patients receive 3 months of complimentary pimobendan medication and a fully covered 3-month follow-up heart ultrasound. For newly diagnosed dogs, ask your primary care veterinarian for a referral or contact the VMC Cardiology Service to learn more.
