Club de l'Epagneul Breton of the United States

Club de l'Epagneul Breton of the United States The CEB-US is the national breed club of the Epagneul Breton. Three months later, the organization was incorporated and the work began.

The Club de l'Epagneul Breton was formed by a small group of fanciers of the original "French Brittany Spaniel," who wanted to establish an organization in the United States to preserve the characteristics of the original breed and distinguish it from the American Brittany. At a meeting held in a barn in Missouri on August 30, 1997, the group elected officers and wrote a mission statement outlining their goals.

What does it really mean when someone says a dog is "getting birdie?"

If you've hunted behind bird dogs, you've probably heard the phrase countless times. But those subtle changes in pace, body language, and movement before a dog establishes point are often where the real conversation between hunter and dog begins.

In this photo, Steve Loveless' Epagneul Breton, Rue de Buckley Creek, is working an alpine meadow tree line where blue grouse often hold. To an experienced handler, this moment can reveal just as much as the point that follows.

We're excited to launch Part 1 of our new four-part blog series, Reading Your Breton in the Field. Throughout the series, experienced CEB-US members from across the country share what they've learned hunting behind their own Epagneul Bretons and how understanding your dog's subtle cues can make you a better hunting partner.

What's the first clue your Breton gives you that birds are close? We'd love to hear what you've noticed in the field.

📸 Share Your Epagneul Breton in the Field 📸

With upland season opening in less than 30 days, we're celebrating what the Epagneul Breton was bred to do — hunt birds and share the field with their owners.

As we often say, the Epagneul Breton is a bird dog. Every year, our members continue this tradition by taking their Bretons into the uplands across the country, and we want to showcase those moments.

We've been featuring member-submitted dogs in our Field Notes series on Instagram (), and we're looking for more great photos to share in upcoming social media posts and future issues of the CEB-US magazine.

Have a favorite photo of your Breton on point, making a retrieve, exploring cover, or enjoying a day in the field?

📸 Submit your high-resolution photo here: https://forms.gle/hTYz5sSk1ADAA7EJA

Or drop a photo in the comments below — we'd love to see your dogs in action and be sure to include the dog's full name!

High-resolution photos are preferred, and photos that highlight your Epagneul Breton as the main subject work best. If your photo is selected for social media, be sure to include your Instagram username so we can tag you.

Help Us Find Our Next Auction Committee Chair

One of the highlights of every National Conclave happens outside the field.

Our annual auction brings members together, raises funds that support CEB-US throughout the year, and plays an important role in the success of our club. As we prepare for the 2027 CEB-US National Conclave in Spencer, Iowa, we're looking for a volunteer to serve as Auction Committee Chair.

In this role, you'll coordinate donated items, work with generous members and sponsors, organize the auction catalog, and help oversee one of the most anticipated events of Conclave. You'll have support from the Board and a team of volunteers throughout the process — you won't be doing it alone.

If you're organized, enjoy working with people, and want to make a lasting impact on the club, we'd love to hear from you.

If you're interested — or would simply like to learn more before committing — drop a comment or send us a Facebook message.

Volunteers are what keep CEB-US moving forward. If you've been looking for a way to give back to the club and the Epagneul Breton, this is a great opportunity.

Know someone who would be a great fit? Tag them in the comments or share this post to help us find our next Auction Committee Chair.

Help Us Find Our Next Field Trial Secretary

Every successful field trial depends on people willing to step up behind the scenes.

As we prepare for the 2027 CEB-US National Conclave in Spencer, Iowa, we’re looking for a volunteer to serve as Field Trial Secretary.

This role is essential to the success of our National Field Trial. The Field Trial Secretary coordinates entries, prepares paperwork, communicates with participants, and helps keep everything running smoothly before and during the event. While it may sound like a lot, you won’t be doing it alone. You’ll have guidance, resources, and support from experienced members throughout the process.

If you’re organized, enjoy being part of a team, and want to play an important role in one of our club’s premier events, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’re interested — or would simply like to learn more before committing — send us a Facebook message.

Volunteers are what make CEB-US possible. If you’ve been looking for a way to give back to the club and the breed, this is a great opportunity.

Know someone who would be a great fit? Tag them in the comments or share this post to help us find our next Field Trial Secretary.

The Tour de France 🚴 is in full swing, and while millions of fans are following the race, many are still trying to figure out the roles of the riders, teams, and governing organizations.

The Epagneul Breton world can feel the same way.

What's the difference between CEB-US, CEB, AICEB, FCI, UKC, AKC, and NAVHDA? Who oversees the breed? Who maintains pedigrees? Who hosts events? And how do they all fit together?

In our latest blog post, we break down the role of each organization and explain how they work to support the Epagneul Breton and the people who love the breed.

Whether you're a longtime member or just discovering the Epagneul Breton, this guide will help make sense of the organizations behind one of France's greatest sporting dogs.

Passing the Torch - Treasurer Transition

Today we recognize two dedicated volunteers to our breed and club. After 3 years of outstanding service as Club Treasurer, Chip Hidinger is transitioning to the empty Post 8 board seat. Chip's careful stewardship of the club's finances have helped position the CEB-US for continued success, and we're grateful he will remain on the Board.

Stepping into the role of Treasurer is Kim Bartells, who transitions from a board seat to oversee the club's financial operations. Kim has already demonstrated a strong commitment to CEB-US through her board service, numerous committee chairs, and a commitment to continued transparency.

Please join us in thanking Chip for dedicated service as Treasurer and congratulating Kim as she begins this new chapter of service to CEB-US.

Thank you, Chip, and congratulations, Kim! 👏👏👏
