Since it's National Feral Cat day, let's talk about what feral means.

Cat friendliness is on a continuum from friendly to feral. There's a whole swathe of possible ranges of friendliness. A truly feral cat doesn't want to be around people and hasn't had human contact. A scared friendly stray might act the same way initially but will eventually warm up and want interaction. But any cat that is friendly is NOT feral; these are referred to as strays or unowned kitties. All deserve kindness.

Founded in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies, the observance aims to raise awareness for community cats (feral and stray cats) and promote humane management through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is valued as the only humane and effective approach for managing free-roaming community cats, as it stabilizes populations, reduces shelter euthanasia, and improves cat health without killing them.

As kitten season starts to slow down, we’re transitioning into Trap Neuter Return (TNR) season! During this time, we work to help stray cats and cats living in large barn colonies by getting them spayed or neutered.

Because trapping cats is never straightforward, TNR often results in last minute surgery openings. We don’t want those appointments to go to waste, so we’re offering them to the public at a low cost! ❤️

📦Wishlist Wednesday!📦

Some folks think kitten season slows down in the fall, but in reality it is our busiest time of year! We have spring kittens with us that have not yet been adopted and the second litters of the season are being born on the streets! With all these kittens are are in need of supplies!! Currently, we are most in need of litter and kitten food!

Last minute spay/neuter openings!!

We have last minute surgery spots available for tomorrow! (Monday 8/31). This is a great opportunity to get your cat fixed for a low cost. If you are interested, the cat must be dropped off to us today (Sunday). We are located outside of Mineral Point. The cost is $100 per cat which includes their spay/neuter surgery, injectable pain medication, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, microchip, dewormer and flea/fick prevention. This offer is available for friendly or feral cats.

✨Adoptable kittens✨

The only thing better than one kitten is two! From now until August 31st we will be offering an adopt one, get one free kitten adoption special! You have a couple more days to take advantage of this!! This is the best time of year to adopt a couple new loving companions. We have every type of kitten you could be looking for! Check out the personality bios on our website for more information. If you don’t see them on our website please know that they are newly available and their bios should be added this weekend. You can skill apply! Our kittens are fostered in the Southwest WI area. All kittens are litter trained and vetted. They are raised in foster homes which helps them acclimate to life with a family. Our adoption fee for kittens is $130 for a single kitten or $200 for a pair which includes their spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, microchip, dewormer and flea/tick preventative.

Foster homes needed‼️

We are at the point of summer where the mama cats are starting to have their second litters of the season 😭 (please spay and neuter!) This week we have been asked to take 3️⃣ moms with brand new babies! We unfortunately cannot say yes to these little lives without foster families willing to help. We would love to give these babies the opportunity to grow up inside where they can be socialized for adoption. Fostering moms and babies is our personal favorite. You get to watch the kittens grow and develop their little personalities. We will provide the supplies, vet care and adopters. You just need to provide a separate room in your home for the fosters, some time and your love.

A tribute to Noble 🐾

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the passing of our sweet Noble. Noble came to us when she was just 8 weeks old. She was trapped on a farm as part of a TNR project. She was one of the lucky ones that came to us when she was young enough to be socialized for adoption. Unfortunately, shortly after intake we realized Noble was having seizures. We got her in with the neurology specialists at the UW vet school where she was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. We were very hopeful that she would grow out of her seizure disorder or that we would be able to manage it with medications. Unfortunately, neither one of these things occurred.

For Noble’s first year of life we were able to manage her seizures quite well. As time passed, the seizures started to occur more regularly and more intensely. We continued to work with the neurology specialists to keep her seizures under control. We added more and more medications which would help a little, but not completely. We got to the point of 6 medications per day, plus another 4 medications every time she had a seizure. Despite all of our efforts, Noble’s seizures continued to worsen. She was having multiple seizures per day that resulted in her falling from places and just being unhappy over all. She started to dread her medication routine even with all the treats and extra pets that came with it.

Last week, after watching Noble have multiple seizures in one day we realized enough was enough. Her quality of life had diminished and we decided the best thing we could do for her was help her cross the rainbow bridge. I know that we did more for Noble than many other rescues or shelters would have. We gave her two years of life where all she knew was love, care and comfort.

Goodbyes are never easy. We enjoyed all the time we had with Noble and will cherish the memories of her. Even though Noble never made it to “adoption day”, she was deeply loved by her foster family. Until we meet again sweet girl. 💕🌈
