Meet Rasputin. 🖤

He’s newly adopted, settling into a brand-new home, and today was our very first visit with him.

New house. New people. New routine. And possibly his very first cat sitter.

So we’re not rushing this friendship.

We’re getting down on his level, giving him space, letting him decide how close he wants to get…

…and, yes, bringing in the heavy artillery:

Churu. 😂

Because sometimes great pet care looks like a big adventure.

And sometimes it looks like sitting quietly on the floor, offering a treat, and letting a shy little guy figure out that this new person might actually be pretty okay.

That’s the part we love.

We get to learn who they are. What makes them comfortable. What makes them curious. And how to help them feel safe and cared for while their people are away.

Not every walk needs a destination.

Sometimes the best part of the walk is the part where you stop.

And sniff.
And wander a little.

And change direction because apparently something very important happened over by that tree.

That’s the idea behind a Sniffari.

We head out on a long line and give your dog more freedom to explore, investigate, move naturally, and take in the world at their own pace.

We’re not trying to rack up miles.

We’re not rushing them past every interesting smell.

We’re giving them time to use their nose, make choices, and enjoy the experience of simply being a dog.

Sometimes the best meetings happen over dinner.
Running Off Leash MKE takes a whole lot of dogs, logistics, ideas, problem-solving, and people who care deeply about doing things well.

Grateful for nights like this with Marsha, our General Manager, where we get to step away from the day-to-day, talk big picture, and keep building what’s next for Off Leash.

If your dog spends five minutes investigating the same patch of grass . . . they’re not doing the walk wrong.

They’re reading the neighborhood.

Who was here?
Which way did they go?
What changed since yesterday?
And apparently… what VERY important thing happened to this particular blade of grass?

For dogs, sniffing is so much more than a distraction from the walk.

It’s how they gather information, explore their environment and engage one of their most powerful senses.

That’s one of the reasons we build so much sniffing time into our Sniffaris.

We slow things down.
We give dogs choices.
We let them investigate.

We give their brains and bodies the opportunity to experience the world in a way that feels natural to them.

So… what exactly is a Sniffari?

Think of it as a walk that’s less about getting from point A to point B… and more about letting your dog experience the world the way dogs are meant to.

A Sniffari is a one-on-one decompression adventure where we head out on a long line and give your dog the chance to:

🐾 sniff deeply
🐾 explore freely
🐾 move at their own pace
🐾 investigate their environment
🐾 take in all the sights, smells, and information the world has to offer

In other words: this is not a rushed neighborhood potty break.

It’s enrichment.
It’s sensory fulfillment.
It’s natural movement.
It’s decompression.

And for a lot of dogs, it’s exactly the kind of outing that helps them come home feeling more fulfilled, more regulated, and more like themselves.

That’s why we love them so much.

Back to school. Back to work. Back to routines, appointments, practices, meetings and somehow needing to be three places at once.

September is coming.

And around here, we’re declaring it Sniffari September.

If you’ve heard us talk about Sniffaris and wondered, “Okay…but what exactly IS that?” — stay with us. We’re going to spend the next couple of weeks showing you.

Here’s the short version:

A Sniffari is a one-on-one adventure built around something dogs don’t get nearly enough of in everyday life:

the freedom to follow their nose.

We head out to trails and outdoor spaces with a long line and let your dog slow down, explore, sniff, investigate and move through the world at their pace.

No mileage goal.
No rushing from point A to point B.
No pressure to keep moving when there’s a very important smell that clearly requires further investigation.

It’s movement, enrichment, sensory exploration and decompression wrapped into one really good outing.
And as everybody settles into a new fall routine, we can’t think of a better thing to put on your dog’s calendar.

Already counting down to Wednesday.

Because for this crew, Wednesday means one thing:

Adventure Club at Hounds & Tap.

Fresh air. Friends. Sniffs. Playtime. Plenty of happy faces. And a midweek outing that gives everyone something to look forward to.

Honestly, we’re pretty sure these dogs have a better social calendar than most of us.

We love our Wednesdays at Hounds & Tap and judging by this lineup, the feeling is mutual.

SATURDAYS ARE FOR THE CAT PEOPLE.

Dogs may get a lot of airtime around here, but our cat clients would like to remind everyone that they are also extremely important.

And extremely busy.

And apparently very passionate about weekends.

Our cat visits are built around the cat in front of us — playtime, enrichment, affection, meals, litter care, or simply respecting the fact that some cats prefer to supervise from a safe distance.

Because good pet care isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Sometimes it’s a trail adventure.

Sometimes it’s a sunbeam, a toy, and this face.
