Fireworks are exciting for us—but they can be scary for our pets.
The days around the Fourth of July are some of the busiest of the year for lost pets. Even dogs and cats that have never seemed bothered before can panic when the fireworks begin.
There is some good news for our horse-owning neighbors! Milton recently passed an ordinance prohibiting fireworks within 200 yards of horse farms. While that should help make those areas a little quieter, 200 yards still may not be enough distance for dogs and cats that are especially sensitive to loud noises.

A few simple steps can help keep your pet safe:
🐾 Keep pets indoors during fireworks.
🐾 Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date.
🐾 Check that your pet's microchip registration is current.
🐾 Close the curtains or blinds and turn on the TV, a fan, or some music to help muffle the noise.
🐾 If your pet has been frightened by fireworks in the past, ask us about medications and other options that can help make the holiday less stressful.
A little planning now can help everyone have a much calmer Fourth of July.
